{ Y LIBRARY STAFF ORGANIZATION I
_ 1981 ANNUAL REPORT '
·f LSO remained fairly active during 1981. In December the staff
L elected_Barbara Galik (Reference) President, Alan Schaplowskyi(Acquisitions)
’ Vice President, Janis Trebby (Government Publications) Secretary, (
Q and Kathy Holden (Government Publications) Treasurer. Vivian MacQuown
j ` agreed to be the Ombudsperson for another_year. In February, the new
, officers started the ball rolling, with March as membership month. The
, idea of the departmental representatives was continued and they proved
, to be an enormous help to the organization. Publication of the Wax Bean
{ was also continued with Toni Powell as its editor. In addition, Karl
I Boewe took pictures at our various functions. The staff was then able
y to purchase copies for themselves.
I _ Membership in LSO increased to 113 members, with some areas having
f_ 100% of their staff joining. With the staff shortages throughout the
f . library system, LSO proved its value as a morale booster and most
I events were very well attended. The year began with the now traditional
i Newcomers' Reception at which Paul Willis presented last years' service
y pins. This was followed by a retirement luncheon for Adele Dailey and
V Elizabeth Howard, with Dr. Louis Cochran (Vice President for Academic `
7 ( Affairs), William Davis (Custodial Staff), and John Simcox (Maintenance)
y also being honored. All past retirees were also invited and expressed
J their appreciation for the staff's thoughtfulness. This was followed
j by the annual picnic at Jacobsen Park and the annual Christmas party.
' We had only two lunch time programs (photography onuMay 6 and rape
prevention on December 4) and one Great Chefs Perform on March 27.
a ‘ The money to support these events was acquired through membership dues,
{ a booksale, a Whatnot sale, and a Christmas bazaar. We also had a bake
V sale with the proceeds going to the purchase of volleyball equipment.
M This has not yet been done, but the money is there for that purpose. In
¢ addition, LSO continued to help the less fortunate. We gave one food
L basket at Thanksgiving, and during the Christmas season we gave $162.94
f to the Medical Center for much needed gifts for patients, donated toys
Y for Lexington’s needy children, and presented Paul Willis with a gift
* certificate for dinner at the Merrick Inn.
‘ With the help and support of the staff, the LSO had a very good _
F year. The officers would like to thank the departmental representatives V
1 for their ideas, and assistance in passing along information and in V
= spreading the good word about LSO, Andrea Bryant for organizing the
( lunch time programs, John Bryant for organizing Great Chefs Perform,
w Karl Boewe for putting our memories on film, the staff lounge committee
. for keeping the lounge bright and spotless, Jean Robinson for organizing
the Thanksgiving basket, Jean and the members of the social committee
* for the beautifully planned and arranged programs, Paul Willis for his
support and concern for LSO, and all the members who gave their time to
; the organization in various ways and who made our social events such
big successes.
