My dear Miss Clay.

Your letter of July 2 received, and we shall be ready to welcome
you in Kansas September lst, and hope that you may know the joy later
of having helped to bring a victory to our State.

The plans for your itinerary, of course, are not definitely
made, but I think it will be safe for you to come prepared for all,
or any kindtof a meeting.

I spoke last night at a band concert at one of the city parks,
and find that the out door meetings are more pleasant than the in
door ones at this time of the season, and September here is often
very warm.

We have not yet had much automobile speaking, but presume we
will have later. Then we will be very glad indeed if you can be
fitted in for Sunday evening talks in some of our churches. Our
organizers that are in the field are being used in that way now.

How strenuous a campaign can you stand? Would one day in eaoh

where
town and city, V we send you,be enough? We are very much delighted
to have your promise to come to us, and trust that nothing may intern

fare to prevent the culmination of our plans,

Dear Miss Clay:*

I have just received yours of the 12th. and am glad to
know about the final outcome of the woman Suffrage Party application or
membership.

I sent you on May 9th. a copy of Miss Winsor's appli—
cation. I am now enclosing another copy. I wrote Miss Winsor at the time
that I was turning-her enquiry over to you and that all details would be
sent to her by you. I enclosed a copy of the new constitution adopted
at Louisville. The limitations for which Miss Winsor's league stands are
explained by her letterhead which bears the words ~" we demand for
women the full franchise, with restrictions excluding the criminal
and illiterate of both sexes." The bills which for association has had
introduced to the Pennsylvania legislature have always, I believe, been
framed to include not only giving the vote to women but restricting the
vote which men already have. As I understand it, the relativewlargo member
ship of her association has been due to her exceedingly capable leader-
ship rather than to any popularity which the limited platform may have.

I am enclosing a copy of the list of the associations
which haye joined the National since the Louisville Convention, which I
have just sent over to the woman's Journal.

I should be very glad indeed if you would send to me the
membership of each of these Associations as-they reported it to you.The

My dear Co—worker:

The time for our'work is growing short. Est us consider hov. we
may Secure a majority in each and every county for the Equal Stifrage
Amendment Nov. 5th. The college people are at home now. The 0-001
houses are available for evening and Sunday meetings, and all "out~
of~doors" belongs to us. Make good use of your opportunities. There
are men and women in every school district who will help. Give your
local talent a part in this good fork. Maintain cheerful-ess but do
not be over hopeful, it is only through persistent, earnest work that
we can win. The enemies are even now sowing tares.

Do not neglect the House to House canvass. In Chicago a precinct
that was canvassed for the preferential ballot gave 1178 votes for
woman suffrage, another where like conditions and equal population pre»
vailed was not canvassed and gave only 118 votes for suffrage. -—:~MW

Ask speakers on other subjects to inject strong suffrage argiu
ments into their speeches, but suffragists should be careiul to keep
all political or sectarian bias out of their own talks and speeches.

The one thing to work for and talk for is the carrying of the amends
ment.

Every county should be toured by an automobile party during the
summer, hold meetings and select field workers. Later when the pol~
itical parties are holding their meetings do as the suffragisgs 1,11
Ohio did and are doing, roller; the crowds 71th carriages or autos and
take advantage of the "ready made" audiences before the speaker of the
day appears. Talk "Justice for Women? You will be welcomed. The“
are many first class speakers in Kansas who will go out for expo 1se s.

Do Something to insure a big majority in your co mty Nov. 5th.
Use the ”Votes for Women" pennants, buy balloons, decorate your autos
and porch es, use printers ink, wear buttons, talk suffrage, reach the
rural voters. ‘
