Sanborn Insurance Maps
Gwen Curtis and John Stachacz have compiled a guide to the Sanborn
Insurance maps of Kentucky, which are in the King Library map _
collection. Although the maps were originally created for use
by insurance underwriters to aid in determining the risk involved
in insuring urban buildings, the maps have evolved into rich
primary source material. They clearly indicate location, size,
' structure and use of buildings in over l5O Kentucky cities and
are used by architects, genealogists, geographers, historians
and urban planners interested in land use.
LSO Bake Sale A Success
Thanks to all the staff members who donated baked goods and who
_ bought goodies, the first LSO bake sale was a great success.
( A special thanks to Roxanna Jones, her fund—raising committee
and Karin Sandvik for setting up and managing the sale.
The proceeds will help finance the picnic and other social
functions as well as programs. If you have any comments on
this past sale or ideas for future sales, please send them to
Roxanna in Circulation.
LSO Fund-Raising Committee
A new LSO committee has been formed to plan and manage fund-
raising activities. Committee members include Roxanna Jones
(Chairperson), Robin Barnard, Peggy Lewis, Judy Sackett and
I Wanda Dole.
The committee hopes to arrange activities which are both enjoy-
able for the staff and at the same time raise some money for
LSO social functions and programs. If you have suggestions for
activities or would like to help this committee, please contact
Roxanna in Circulation.
Money Matters _
· Although the end of FY '77—78 is nearly upon us, spending
restraint is still needed to keep the Library within its various
budgets. It is important to continue to refrain from using any
‘ of the Library's account numbers for any purposes (bookstore,
printing and duplicating service included) without express
approval from John Gray in Administrative Services. W
