Rainer Maria Rilke Exhibit i
UK Special Collections Department is displaying a collection of 13 origi-
nal letters written by the internationally-acclaimed German symbolist
. author—poet Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926) in the foyer, King Library
North. The project was completed by student-assistant Alex Pittman under I
the direction of Mr. David Farrell, Curator of Book Collections. 4
The correspondence, encompassing the period May 14, 1916 - August 6, 1919, (
was directed to one single correspondent and admirer, Austrian Countess ;
Aline von Dietrichstein. These turbulent years of the World War and
the months following portray Rilke's growing hatred of war and his need
of poetic inspiration as well as his perceptions of certain other I
literary figures of the period and earlier, notably Danish poet-author
Jens Peter Jacobsen (1847-1885). Q
Of the letters. seven have been published in German, a portion of four i
in English; the others have never been published. g
Agriculture Library Continues Its International Relations
International cooperation has come to the Agriculture Library. Angelique
Bantu, a staff member of the Centre De Documentation Agricole (CDA),
Zaire will be training in the Agriculture Library during April and May.
Mrs. Bantu is here on an AID grant to observe indexing techniques
employed for materials in the Agricultural Sciences. From here Mrs. Bantu
will continue to Wasington to work at the National Agricultural Library
in Beltsville MD and the Library Congress.

LC/GPO Cataloging Cooperation
The Library of Congress and the Government Printing Office are cooperating
womdng together to establish corporate name headings, based on AACR for . "
the changed Mgnthly_gatalog of gis; Government Publications. In the I
first year over 2,000 corporate headings were processed, with appropriate
cross references, Then the project was expanded to include authority
files for personal names. ~
The two bodies: having first considered choice of entry and form of
heading, proceeded to discussions focusing on bibliographic description. _
A representative from the Federal Library Committee and one from ALA
Government Documents Round Table's Documents Cataloging Manual Committee
attended the sessions. .
These agencies are coninuing their cooperative efforts as they prepare
to interpret and implement AACR II.
Fine of the Spring
$298.00. It would have been cheaper to have reported the book lost, early
on, and paid for it. Another individual said, "I‘m just lazy, I guess,"
when asked why he ignored repeated overdue notices. · _
