me of June 30th relative to the Loftus Baker case. it would seem
to be a great hardship to compel the attendance at court at Jackson
of witnesses referred to by Mr. Landrum, inasmuch as they know noth-
ing at all about the case. It is quite probable that plaintiff's
attorneys have simply embarked on a "fishing" expedition.

Loftus Baker Vs L P N R P CO.

Referring to the above subject I enclose herewith statements
from three employes who are in the service relative to the accident.
Baker refusef to make stotem nt himself.

Thds man was struck on the nose with SlFPh bar when it struck
bridge. I do not see how we are going to be held liable. Baker
lost 10 days on account of the injuries sustained by 11m. He was
then placed as fireman on local between Hazard and NcRoberts and
remained there until about middle of February when the Hazard and
McRoberts local was taken off. He married Last fall and is now
living with his wife in Jackson, Ky. He is now vorking as brick
carrier in connection with the buiLding of some new buildings
at drekson. Whido on the Hazard—MORoberts local he was with
Engineer T. Donovan and Conductor Ruben Short. I have talked to
both of these man and they tell me that he was 11:; never comrloining
of any injury, or that his injury was hurting him in any way. He
roomed with Engineer Donovan while on this run. Dr. Hog; Pt Jackson
who treated Baker says that the nose bone was knocked in but that
he was weLL in a very short time and that the injury left no permanent
results other than the disfigurement.
