Minutes of the University Senate - January 139 1936

The University Senate met in the Lecture Room of McVey Hall Monday,
January 13, with President McVey presiding.

The minutes of December 16 were approved as read.

Professor Downing presented the report of the Auditing Committee for
Student Activities for the year 1934»35.

The followin: special reports were made by members of the faculty
who have attended educational meetings during the year;

The meeting of the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary
Schools in Louisville. December 1-5 was reported by Professor Ligon and
Dean Boyda Professor Ligon gave an account of the meeting of the
Commission on Secondrry Schools and Dean Bord renorted on the meeting
of the Commission on Fisher Institutions of the Association.'

President McVey made a brief report on the first meeting of the
Southern University Conference which met in Louisville immediately
following the meeting of the Southern Associationo He stated that
the Conference was a group of about thirty institutions organized
with a view of studying and emphasizing graduate work in southern
institutions.

President McVey called attention to the calendar for Commencemento
He announced that the Baccalaureate sermon would be given by Rev. E. L5
Gabbard, Pastor of the North Street Church, Chattanooga“ Tennessee, who
has recently been invited to become President of Witherspoon College, at
Buckhorn. Kentucky, and that Governor Chandler would be the Commencement
speaker.

Announcement was made of an open meeting of the American Association

of University Professors Tuesday evening. January 14 at 7:30 when
Dean Graham would speak on the University’s building program.
