A TOAST TO OUR VOLUNTEERS OF THE MONTH

When making

repeatedly. The

two people just

~ happened to be

married to one another, Rose Rita and

Jerry Wurmser. While they work together

on some projects, they also have many
individual interests.

Their friends describe them as the
hardest working people they have ever
come across with a deep commitment to
family and a strong compassion for their
fellow human beings. Judy Levine, a
friend, said they have an absolute willing-
ness to help. They do it quietly and don’t
make a big fuss. "They don’t talk about
commitment but live it daily," said Levine.
They begin and follow through to comple-
tion everything they touch. Levine said
their concern about family and friends
runs deep. When they hear about a
simcha or a problem they ask, "What can
we do?"

The Wurmsers commitment to
community runs deep as demonstrated by
their volunteer activities. Jerry works at
Habitat for Humanity, Temple Adath
Israel and supervises the furniture drive
for Russian Resettlement. He also
provided a much needed handy man’s

touch to the new CKJF office this spring.
Rose Rita volunteers at Score, Operation
Read, Good Samaritan Hospital, TAI and
regularly works at the Horizon Center
where she and her granddaughter Lauren
serve food. This past spring she was
elected to the CKJF Board of Directors.
Together this dynamic couple have put in
uncounted hours setting up and decorating
the apartments provided for our new
American families and assisting in many
other ways.

Rabbi Adland said of his congre-
gants,"They are two of the nicest, most
giving, most open people, I have ever
known."

Rose Rita and Jerry moved to Lexington
34 years ago from Louisville. For 25 years
they had a wholesale sundries business in
which they worked hard together with
their family.

The Wurmsers’ family includes:¥1udi
and Michael Higdon, Linda and Jeff
Noffsinger and Jeffrey Wurmser, who all
live in Lexington. Another daughter, Terri
Wurmser, and her husband Bart Lubow,
live in Hudson, NY. They have 4
grandchildren ranging from one to sixteen
years of age.

Judi recalls growing up with these two
loving parents. "We always took vacations
as a family. Because Dad was on the road
so much, dinner time was family time.

WHAT A MOVE!

Our recent move to 340 Romany Road
was a huge success due to the tireless
efforts of our great volunteer staff.
Pictured here are Abe Levine, Jerry
Wurmser, and Austin Cantorfl

(volunteers cont.)

We always waited for him to come home
for dinner-whatever time it was. Mom was
always a bundle of energy and Dad was
laid back, but an incredibly hard worker.Ii
Rose Rita’s hobbies are walking and
volunteering. Jerry gardens, reads, loves
boating, fishing, and their two dogs. He
recently started woodworking. They have
a house on Herrington Lake where they
spend a great deal of their time.
Thanks again Rose Rita and Jerry
for being an inspiration to all who know
you!

TREASURES OF THE JEWISH MUSEUM

The JBSpeed Art Museum in Louisville
will be having a special exhibit entitled
"Treasures of the Jewish Museum" October
2-December 6, 1992. Selections from one
of the world’s greatest collections of Jewish
antiquities, ceremonial objects and art
drawn from the last 3,000 years of Jewish
culture. The exhibition includes objects
made for the rituals and ceremonies of
Jewish religious life which document the
aesthetic, historic, and geographic range of
Jewish visual art. These objects are
enhanced and complemented by paintings
and sculpture which depict Jewish
personalities and customs, explore issues
of Jewish identity and comment on the
meaning of Jewish life and history.

We are working on organizing a group
tour. Stay tuned for further details.

 NEWS FROM CAMP SHALOM

The word is out that Camp Shalom was a great success this year. We
had almost 40 children attend this year’s session. A big round of thanks
must go to Mark Scarr, Sandy Mason, and Tareasa Pearl for all their
time and effort in making camp a fun experience for all the children.
Recognition must also go to all our young counselors who worked at camp
this year. They did a fantastic job!

The camp committee also wants to thank all those parents who helped
with the car pools. The field trips would not have been possible without
your time. Another thank you is due to those who brought food and
drinks to the last day brunch. It wouldn’t have happened without your
support.

Planning for 1992-1993 Camp Shalom will be starting very soon. This
is a reminder that we need volunteers to serve on the camp committee.
If anyone is interested, please get in touch with the Federation office,

268-0672 or 268-0775.

Jessica Ross, Camp Shalom Camp Chair
