1982 CAMPAIGN

CAMPAIGN UPDATE — WOMEN'S DIVISION

Gail Cohen, Chairperson of CKJA's Women's Division, proudly reports
a 14% increase in pledges over 1981 from those attending the gala opening
event of the 1982 Campaign.

Sixty women heard Lili Nesher, formerly with Israel's foreign
ministry, discuss some of the problems confronting Israel today. Mrs.
Nesher, along with her husband, a veteran of Israel's War for Indepen-
dence in 1948, spoke movingly of passing the burden of defense from
generation to generation. Her son fought in the 1973 Yom Kippur War,
and her daughter recently completed her army service.

More than 30 solicitors will be personally contacting women of the
community to ask for their participation in the humanitarian projects
supported by the CKJA campaign through UJA and other charities.

CAMPAIGN UPDATE — MEN'S DIVISION

Steve Caller, Chairman of the Men's Division of CKJA reports that
Sunday morning, March 21, 1982 marked the beginning of the annual Campaign.
Approximately 65 men met at the Lafayette Club to hear a variety of talks
about Project Renewal, local needs and a fine speech by guest speaker ?ti
Kolitz.

Pledges for those in attendance totalled nearly $115,000 which rep—
resents a 10% increase from the same pledges last year. This figure is
48% of the 1982 Men's goal.

All 36 of the Men's workers now have their cards which remain to be

solicited. Co—chairman Erle Levy has every expectation that the Campaign
will be 90% complete by April 30th, and 100% by May 30, 1982.

WE ARE ONE - ONE PEOPLE INDIVISIBLE

A COVENANT

AS AMERICAN JEWS WE:

*express our ongoing commitment to the unity, strength, and continu—
ity of the Jewish people;

*attest to the central role of THE JEWISH AGENCY as Diaspora Jewry's
foremost instrument through which we implement the full force of our
commitment in the Jewish homeland;

*accept our responsibility as partners with the people of Israel in
building a great and just society, a partnership expressed a decade
ago in the Reconstitution of the Jewish Agency on the 28th day of
Sivan 5731, and

DO HEREBY ENDORSE FULLY THE SOLEMN COVENANT sworn and signed that day by
representatives of world Jewry, the Jewish Agency, and the people of
Israel.

THIS CHARTER TO ADDRESS HUMAN NEED reflected the historic mandate Of the
Jewish Agency since its founding in 1929, carried out through;

*The rescue and rehabilitation of Jews in lands of distress and
their resettlement in freedom in the Jewish homeland;

*Development of agricultural settlements;
*Provision of health serivces to immigrants in need;
*Rehabilitation of Jewish youth through Youth Aliyah;

*Care of aged, disabled, handicapped, and other persons in need of
assistance;

*Support of higher educational, cultural, scientific, religious, and
social service institutions;

*Other programs and services designed to help immigrants become
integrated into the community of Israel.

TO THIS LIFE ENHANCING WORK has been added the sweeping and boldly
innovative program called Project Renewal, making closer and even more
binding the ties that link Israel's people with the Jews of America.

TODAY WE FACE A CHALLENCING NEW DECADE in which our continuity as a
people and Israel's existence as a Jewish homeland are once more under
severe attack by anti-Semitic, anti—democratic, and anti—humanitarian
forces the world over.

IT IS OUR BELIEF that our commitment to meet the human needs of the people
of Israel, expressed through our annual United Jewish Appeal Community
Campaigns, is our most effective means of;

*maintaining the global humanitarian lifeline which extends to Israel
through the Jewish Agency and to Jews in 30 other lands through the
American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee;

*defying and opposing rising threats to divide, diminish, or extin—
guish Jewish life in earth, and

*creating the cohesive and enduring Jewish life we seek for ourselves
and our children in our communities throughout the United States.
