NSA: Should We Join?
For a month Student Congress lias
been debating the question of whether UK should join the National Student Association.
We have looked into the question
tin's week, and since SC will vote on
the question Monday, the findings
we made should he presented now;.
NSA has over .'500 member schools
and is designed to encourage student
action and thought in a number ol
varied liclds. The organiation deals
not only with problems that arise in
the area of student government; it
also takes stands on national and international quest icpt
We
contend that NSA will
be a panacea for all our ills at UK,
nor do we claim that its stands on
these
vital national and international questions are in complete accord with the viewpoint of
;he UK student
body or of the
South.
We do feel, however, that NSA has
kome good features which should
be pointed out and that some possible
misconceptions
about
the
organiation must be cleared up.
do-no-

t

so-calle- d

It is thereby able to provide a member

school with possible solutions to these
problems. In this lespect, NSA. would
be a gieat service to UK student
government by making the. researc h
of various SC committees lar more
el lie itn t and accurate.
We have heard that some people
believe the organiation has Communistic learnings. This idea we reject completely.
In the first place, the NSA constitution states that the organiation
Lilian and
is non-sethat is, it does not endorse party platforms or candidates. Since its conception in ID If), no reliable studies
have found the organiation to be
"pink" as some people have assumed.
Our inemhersip in NSA would
gieatly aid the removal of misconceptions about Kentucky which exist
in other areas of the country. This,
for us, would be a distinct advantage.

The World University Service does
Jiot think, so. Its thesis is "The student, and the university where he

It is because of thisvtheoiy that
"WUS has become an agency for relief when learning is terioriecl or
