The Chairman introduced the new members of the Senate and expressed to
the College of Law the appreciation of the Senate for the use of the Court Room
for the meetings this year.

The Chairman presented a request from Mr. Browning, a KERNEL representa~

tive,to be permitted to sit in the meeting and report its proceedings. The
Senate approved the request and Mr. Browning was invited into the meeting.

The Chairman stated that upon request, he had invited Mr. Mitchell
McConnell, President of the Student Bar Association, to the meeting for
the purpose of presenting the views of the law students concerning a proposed
change in the 1967—68 calendar for the College of Law. Mr. McConnell was
invited into the meeting.

The minutes of the special meeting of the University Senate, May 4, 1966,
were approved.

The Secretary, University Senate Council, reported that since its }
oircularization dated September 27, 1966 to the faculty of the three U
recommendations from the Calendar Committee, the Council had held further H
discussions and wished to make the following recommendations: l

E that the proposed Calendar for 1967—68 /which was in the September i
‘ 27th circularizatio§7be approved by thewSenate; that a Calendar 1}
] Committee be appointed to make a full study of the advantages ‘
and disadvantages of the various types of calendars; that it y 9
utilize the services of the Office of Institutional Studies; f ”,E
that the opinions of both faculty and students be sought; and
that the Calendar Committee report its conclusions to the j‘y
Senate, via the Senate Council, by March 1, 1967 and that dis~ Ԥfffl
cussion of the report and action on the calendar, to be prepared ‘

The College of Law then presented the following amendment: {5

 

 

 

that the University, except for the College of Law, continue i ii.ng
to operate under the present type calendar for the 1967—68 ' ‘W‘

Professor Flickinger presented pedagogical reasons why the College of 5
Law felt it could not operate within the present—type calendar. Mr. 5
McConnell reported that a referendum taken by the Student Bar Associa— “
tion of the first and second year Law students resulted in an 87% vote with
81% opposed to any change in the present semester system. On request, a
