PREFACE

This volume has been very carefully edited and prepared for all occasions
of Christian worship.

We have sought to make a book that is scriptural in sentiment, coupled
with the sweetest and most soul-inspiring melodies.

In the book will be found many of the best standard hymns that never die.

We have endeavored to publish many songs to please, edify, and instruct
all.

We have sought to make a book that all can “sing with the spirit,
and . . . with the understanding also.” It has been our purpose to
retain the best of the old, to give only the sweetest new melodies, and thus
give to the people a book that will be uplifting and soul-stirring. As to how
well we have succeeded, we leave it to a discriminating and charitable public
to say, while we send the book forth praying God’s blessings upon it.
