The officers of the Library Btaff organization are serving as a
nominating committee for candidates to fill the office of Ombudsman.
Any library faculty or staff member is an eligible candidate for this
office. If you wish to make a nomination, please submit them to any
of the officers of the staff organization before November 12. The
election will take place during the business meeting of the Library
Staff Organization on Friday, November 14, at 3:30 p.m. in room 504.
Additional nominations will be accepted from the floor. The officers

The office of the Ombudsman shall provide a mechanism for handling
issues_for which no established procedure exists or for which estab-
lished procedures have not yielded a satisfactory solution. It is
not intended to supplant the normal processes of problem resolution.
The authority of the Library Ombudsman extends to issues of a Library
nature involving all professional, classified and student employees
of the University Libraries.
The Ombudsman shall have full access to the necessary officials,
meetings and personnel records; the involved parties shall remain
anonymous in all cases, unless said parties signify otherwise. The
Ombudsman shall maintain close liaison with the Director and is
responsible to the Library faculty and staff, to whom reports shall
be made at least once a quarter. The Ombudsman shall be selected by
vote of the Library faculty and staff and shall serve a term of one
calendar year.
 
The Southern Regional Education Board has established a special com-
mittee to study the role of SREB in library cooperation. SREB took
this action because of its recognition that library cooperation has
great potential benefits to higher education in the region and SREB
should provide every assistance possible to its development.

Members appointed to the committee, all members of SREB, include
Virginia State Senator Paul W. Manns; Mississippi State Representative
George W. Rogers, Jr.; Auburn University President, Harry M. Philpott;
University of Kentucky President,Otis A. Singletagyr and Director of

of Education, Lee G. Henderson. y
The com ittee held its first meeting in August and has made plans for
future meetings, including one with representatives from the SOLINET
Board in November.
 
This has been distributed to all professional staff., If you perform
services outside of primary job assignment, please itemize them; i.e.,
work at reference desk, teach one course in Library School, give
tours for Instructional Services, etc. If you have any questions, {
please see Faith Harders.

All non-student regular hourly staff who consistently work 20 hours
or more per week will receive paid Christmas vacation on the same
basis as they receive regular vacation and sick leave. If there are
any questions, please call Faith Harders.,
 
The Special Libraries Association, Kentucky Chapter will hold its
fall meeting on November 6th, 1975. The group will meet in Frankfort
at the State Archives and Record Center at 1:30 p.m. The speaker
will be Mr. Howard Goodpaster, his topic is the functions of the
Division of Archives and Records. Hostess for the afternoon will
be Mrs. Annie Harrison, State Government Reference Service Librarian.
Special guests of the SLA Kentucky Chapter will be the SLA Kentucky
Chapter Student Division and Kentucky members of the Medical Library
Association. A social hour will follow the lecture and discussion.
Ellen Baxter, President of the Kentucky Chapter, is coordinating
rides to Frankfort. y
