The University Senate met in regular session at 4:00 p.m., Monday, October 14,
1968, in the Court Room of the Law Building. Chairman Sears presided. Members

The Senate approved the requests of Mr. Phil Norman of the Courier Journal,

Mr. Karry Powell of the Lexington Herald, Miss Dana Ewell of the Kernel, to sit
in the meeting and report its proceedings, and that of Miss Debbie Clark, a student,

to attend the meeting.

The minutes of the meeting of September 9, 1968, were approved with an amendment
that the phrase "to the inclusion of Item 3" be added in the following paragraph on
page 9 of the circulated minutes:

”The Senate approved a motion to permit the dissenters t9_the inclusion 9f_Item
g the privilege of informing the Secretary of the Senate of their dissent,
to be recorded in the minutes ."

The Chairman ruled that the final motion in the minutes of September 9, 1968, was
out of order since the Governing Regulations specifically provide that "a majority
of the Senate shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business." This
motion was:

 

Motion was made and seconded that at all subsequent meetings of the Senate
a count be taken at the beginning of the meeting and if a quorum exists,
it continue to exist until the meeting is adjourned.

The Secretary, University Senate, presented the preposed University Calendar for
the l97l—72 academic year which had been prepared within the framework of guidelines
set down by the University Senate and circulated to the faculty of the University
under date of September 18, 1968, and recommended its approval. The Senate approved
the 1971—72 University Calendar as circulated.

August 7, 1968 Commencement, together with a brief summary, and recommended that the
candidates be approved. These candidates were approved by the Board of Trustees at its

meeting of September 17, 1968, subject to approval by the Senate. The Senate approved
