FOREWORD

The Department of Education publishes the "Kentucky School Directory"
as a service to the people of the Commonwealth and to others who are inter—
ested in the schools of Kentucky.

Appreciation is expressed to public and non—public school superintend—
ents and other officials for the provision of data for this Bulletin.

The 1961—62 publication presents three innovations. First, it lists all
public and non—public elementary and secondary schools regardless of the
number of teachers in those schools. Next, it offers a district—by—district
listing of administrative and supervisory personnel, including chairmen of
boards of education. Finally, the typewriting, printing, assembling, and
binding all were done within the Department of Education.

A further departure from the 1960—61 "Directory," yet actually a return
to the practice followed prior to that year, is the identification of the racial
Status of each school.

Although the production of this edition of the ”Directory" was supervised
by the Division of Records and Reports acknowledgment is due to professional
staff members and employees of several divisions of the Department for the
application of their special skills and for their personal interest in the success-
ful completion of this project.

WENDELL P. BUTLER
Superintendent of Public Instruction
