partment. Special exhibits inspired by the American revolutionary
period theme will also be presented by the Owl and Pussycat Book
Shop and the Living Arts and Science Center. Joy Terhune of the
College of Library Science is workshop director.
 
MIK's Instructional Services Dept. is creating a series of video
tape instructional modules with the help of University Media Services.
The first series consists of three short tapes that guide the viewer
through the process of locating a periodical at MIK. Instruction
is given in the use of the various indexes, interpreting the citations
given, and locating the material in the stacks. The color video tapes
will be available for use through MIK's Public Services.

A unique photographic exhibition of 19th century cast iron coal hole
covers, prepared by the University of Louisville, is currently on
display in the Art Library. The exhibition can be seen during Art
Library hours now through 29 February. _
UKBE BESEABQH AWARDS 1975/76
Four awards of $500 for outstanding achievement in research or
creative arts will be given by The University of Kentucky Research
Foundation. Nominations by members of the faculty are invited from
all; deadline is 5 March 76. v_

Library Staff Organization Program:
The Staff Organization will present its first program - "A Valentine
for Margaret I. King" — of 1976 on Friday, Feb. 13, at 3:00 p.m. in
the Old Rare Book Room.
A panel consisting of Jacqueline Bull of Special Collections, Emilie
Varden Smith of Cataloging, and Mrs. Henry Hornsby, a retired staff
member, will recall their days with Margaret I. King and recount to .
new staff members: "Just who was Margaret I. King?" Memorabilia and
photographs will be on display.

All members of the staff are welcome to come. A short business
meeting will be held first and refreshments served after the program.
Bluegrass Librarians Association:
The Bluegrass Librarians Association met in the MIK Gallery on
Tuesday evening January 27th, 1976 with President Charlie Hind
presiding.
The Constitution was read by Bill Marshall, (Chairman of the Constitu-
tion Committee) and it was approved and adopted by the Association. ‘
New officers elected for 1976 were: Anne Hamilton, Librarian, Kentucky
Department of Education, President; Joe Forsee, Librarian, Kentucky
Department of Libraries, Vice President and Ed O'Hara, Head, Col-
lection Development Department, University of Kentucky Libraries,
Secretary and Treasurer.
A Program entitled "The Library Services in Kentucky for the senior
Citizen" was presented by Mr. Hind.

Special Libraries Association:
The Kentucky Chapter of the Special Libraries Association met for a
dinner meeting Saturday, January 3lst at the Ramada Inn Imperial on
Waller Ave. at 6:30 p.m. V . i
Special guests receiving awards were Gilles Frappier, Associate
Librarian, Library of Parliament, Ottawa, Canada, who received a
Kentucky Colonel Com ission and Arch Hamilton of Georgetown,
Kentucky, who received an honorary membership in the Kentucky
Chapter. Ellen Baxter, President, presided. Ruth Brown represented
the U.K. Libraries.
The group went to Mrs. Baxter's home for a party following the
presentations where they were joined by Dr. Nat Whitten from Brooklyn,
New York. Dr. Whitten taught in the University of Kentucky College
of Library Science in the '50's.

Jennifer Coffman has left the Library to become a full time law
student. She is replaced by Alice Morgan, who received her MLS
from Kentucky in December 1975 and has worked as a student assistant
in Reference.
Hunter Adams has retired and the Architecture Library is now under
Kerry Zack. Ms. Zack received her library degree from Indiana
University in 1968 and has served as Fine Arts Librarian at Indiana
and as Assistant Art Librarian at Yale.
