Documenting COVID-19 in the Commonwealth

Name: Dani Fitch
Date of Submission: 2020 July 5

Biography: I am a 25 year old barber in the midst of a pandemic. I am also a caregiver for my
father, 59, that has heart, lung, and kidney disease.

COVID-19 Experience: This pandemic is weird, it’s scary, it’s like living through and alternate
reality. I am grateful I get to see all my guests again, but after most of 2019 being spent in the
ICU with my Dad, being in this close contact situation with this many people a day is almost
paralyzing. I pray Kentucky stays plateaued where it is, and my thoughts are with everyone that
have lost loved ones due to this virus. I am a caregiver of a high risk individual, and I am forced
to come in close contact with at least ten people a day. I work everyday with absolute fear in my
veins. The flu put my father on a ventilator in 2019. If he catches COVID this year, he will not
make it. Being a caregiver, and a barber, in the middle of a pandemic, is not a fun place to be.
My heart is with everyone that has lost a loved one due to this virus.
