Documenting COVID-19 in the Commonwealth

Name: Kylen Mills
Date of Submission: 2020 May 6

Biography: I’m a TV news anchor and reporter here in Lexington, Kentucky. I grew up in the
Chicago area but I’ve lived here for more than 3 years. I was born in 1990. I have no affiliation
with UK except for covering a ton of news stories on campus from sporting events to news on
the hospital and anything else.

COVID-19 Experience: A lot of people don’t consider journalists as essential workers, but
we’ve continued to go out in the community to report on stories throughout the pandemic. We
are all working out of our houses instead of the station, and trying to find ways to stay socially
distant. This interview shows an extra long mic stand made by LEX-18 photographer Tyler Ross
(not pictured). Pictured is LEX 18 reporter Kylen mills and Tania Crawford Gross who works in
Student Retention and Success for BCTC. This was taken on the BCTC Leestown Road campus
for a story on the school’s food pantry giving out free meals to students who may be struggling
due to the pandemic.
