Campus greek organizations got
down, dirty .._- and at one point naked
-.-. at the second annual .lell—()
()lympics yesterday at E.S. (Iood Barn
field.

I’estivities included a .lell—() eating
contest, in which blindfolded partici—
pants shoved the fruit—flavored gelatin
into the mouths of their blindfolded
partners; a _Iell—() slide. where com—
petitors were judged upon the distance
they coasted; and an obstacle
course/relay race.

The competition heated up when

_Iamie Mueller, :1 Kappa Sigma social
fraternity sophomore, slid down the
_Iell—() run naked, winning the event.

After Mueller‘s exposed body slid
farther than his competitors', he
quickly ran across the field to his car,
changed and returned to the event.

B}. \Veaver, a Chi Omega social
sorority member, witnessed the act in
awe.

“I heard all sorts of yelling." the
biology sophomore said. “\Vhen I
looked up, I saw his naked butt run-v
ning across the field."

However, this event, sponsored by
Alpha Xi Delta social sorority and
Lambda (:hi Alpha social fraternity as

part of Greek \Veek, had a serious
intent.

The money gathered from the
T—shirt sales and the donations froiti
other sororities and fraternities will go
to the Nest, a home for abused chil-
clren in Lexington.

Kristin Lambert, Alpha Xi member
and co-organizer ofthe event, seemed
excited about the turnout.

“(The event) is a little chaotic but
it's a lot of fun," said Lambert. an ele—
mentary education junior.

“It’s a great way to start off (ireek
“'eek." '

Scott Bouldin, a member of Sigma
Nu social fraternity and an English

junior, enjoyed coasting down the _Iell‘
() slide.

“I feel one with thejlell~()," he said.
The main purpose of this event and
others happening this week is to
strengthen the bonds of greek unity
throughout the campus. organizers
said.

“It's really neat to see everyone
cooperating and having a good titiie
together," \Veaver said.

First—place w'mners were Alpha
(lamina Delta social sorority and
Sigma (Ihi social fraternity.

Second place went to (Ihi Omega
and Sigma Nu, and third place was
awarded to Kappa Sigma.

The ['K Board of Trustees yesterday approved
the appointment of the director of minority affairs
for the Chandler Medical Center.

Anna R. Allen, who was an equal opportunity spe-
cialist at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, will
assume leadership of the newly-created office. She
will he res )onsible for both the recruitment and
retention of a diverse staff, Medical Center Chancel-
lorjames IIolsinger said.

The (Iouncil on IIi rher Education has mandated
that the state‘s pubfic universities si nificantly
increase the numbers of minorities in stucfent, facul-
ty and staff positions.

Allen's post should help the Medical Center
achieve those levels, Holsinger said.

“It should help all our efforts at attracting a
diverse group of faculty and students," said
IIolsinger, shortly after the 2 l
