The tragedy of losing a student to domestic vio—

the gun on himsLlf.

Pollitt worked in the office ofthe dean ofthe (Zol—

been accepted to LIK‘s secondary social studies
teacher education program.

(Iollege of lI‘ducI ation Dean]. Iohn Harris said the
scholarship was established‘ so her memory can live
on for those who are in similar circumstances "he
added. (.handra was working her way through col-

Harris said every weekend Pollitt would return to
her mother's in Ripley, Ohio, to
work at her family's skating rink.

“The scholarship is a tribute to
Chandra,“ said .Ionathan Prasse, a
staff assistant in the College of Edu-
cation.

The college is soliciting contribu—
tions from students, faculty, adminis—
trators and the community.

Harris said although the final cri-
teria by which the scholarship will be
awarded have not been established the college
already has discussed a few requirements.

He said the scholarship will he awarded to a stu-
dent who wants to teach In the public school system.
Harris said Pollitt was planning to teach low income
students in New York's inner—city after she graduat-
ed.

Just before her death, she had discussed the dan—
ger ofteaching in New York. After the incident Har-
ris w as quoted as saying, ‘()ne of the last things we
discussed was the danger of her rgoing to New York
to teach right after she graduated."

The recipient also would have to be a student
admitted to the teacher education program Harris

said. Pollitt had been admitted to the program iust ,
days before she died 1‘s

After Pollitt s death, Yvette Ray, who worked in
the dean's office with Pollitt, said, “She was very
excited about being admitted to the program."

“\\'e are working with her family to establish
other criteria (for the scholarship)," Harris said.
