hour before the distribution of last week's Green Bean,
several staff members rushed to the rescue. Thanks go out
to Emily Lihani, Annette Samuels and the editor. They were
responsible for printing, cutting and stapling the new noti-

PETRARCH SAID:
You certainly should not think me immune from all human faults.
There is one insatiable passion which holds me and which
hitherto I have been neither able nor willing to check (for I
assure myself that it is a passion for something decent rather
than otherwise). Do you want to know the nature of the disease?
I cannot glut my appetite for books. And I have more perhaps
than is proper. But as in other things, so it is with books;
success in obtaining them is a spur to avarice. For there is
a particular pleasure in books. Gold, silver, jewels, purple
clothing, a marble house, a fertile field, painted pictures,
high-stepping armoured steeds, and other things of that kind,
give a mute and superficial pleasure. Books please us to the
marrow of our bones; they speak to us, give advice, they bind
us to a lively and witty companionship. And not only does each
introduce itself to the reader. It thrusts upon him the names
of others, kindling his desire for them.
(And to think, Petrarch, the great Italian poet, founder of
humanism, inaugurator of the Renaissance, never saw a printed
book! He was born——l304-l374-- before printing was invented.)

at night and on week-ends all stairwell doors will be locked at
4:30 P.M. daily and will remain locked over the week-ends.
Staff who use the stairwells after normal working hours will
need to obtain a key. (It is possible to enter the stairwell,
but not to exit without a key since the doors lock automatically.)
The staff lounge in King North will also be locked at the end of.
the day. Staff or departments using the lounge at night or on
week—ends may obtain a key. a
Your cooperation is sought in keeping these doors locked in order
  to reduce security risks.
