Surefire
ways to
"impress" a
date:

1. Be sure to make
reservations if the
restaurant you
choose is a fancy or
popular one. This
usually involves
giving the waiter
your social security
number or perhaps
your credit card
number. It is
embarrassing to
show up without
reservations.

2. When your food
arrives. proper dining
etiquette requires
you to eat at a
moderate pace so
that you have time to
talk. It is bad dining
etiquette if you
gobble down your

or use it as a bib.

3; 5. When dining, keep

it»; your fork straight in
:9 your mouth. Do not

i‘z place your fork in the

it increases the

i sliding away, which
' could be very
embarrassing.

7. If you get food stuck
in your mouth, do not
pick it out with your
fingers or fork at the
table. Instead go to
the bathroom and
remove it.

PAMPERING YOUR DATE

1. When being seated, do
not allow them to
place you in “bad"
spots such as those
that are noisy, next
to the restrooms. by
the front or back
door, in a draft, etc.

a‘fi 's.1..,.pzr.[2 n. . .

2. If you are at a classy
restaurant, you

what they want and

them.

3. Be sure to leave at l
least a 15 percent tip
(unless the service is
poor). Wouldn't want
your date to think
you're a Cheapskate.

Type of radiation therapy gains
popularity, beginning with UK

by Greg Burgett

CONT R Bill N13 WRITER

Tumor radiation
therapy became a bit
more mainstream last
Thursday as Kentucky
(.‘linic Professor and

hiuddin. M.l).. ex.
plained the effects of a
new treatment under
deyclopment.

Molnuddin de
scribed a new form of
radiation therapy that
he has been working
with for 12 years.

“The dose of radia
tion is still delivered to
one area of the body.
but we break it into 250
parts. which allows us

to give a higher dose of

radiation with consid.
erably less side effects."
he said.

The practical appli»
cation of Spatially lr‘rac
rionated Radiation
Therapy (also called
GRID Therapy) is that
it has the ability to re-
duce the size of very
large and stubborn tu-
rnors.

A little bit of Major in my
life. UK defensive coordinator
Mike Major was slammed last
Monday by a fan on the Big Blue
Line. “I‘d like to talk about that
guy who called in and wanted to
fire the defensive coordinator."
Hal Mumme said. Don' t just talk
Hal. Talk trash. Major 5 boys
limited the Hogs to just 315 yards
total offense and forced three
Arkansas turnovers in UK‘ s 31 20
win. “One of the more stunning
things is that we weren 't moving
the ball well offensively."
Arkansas gunslinger Clint Sto-
emer said.

A little bit of Mumme by my

side. UK tight end James Whalen
got lit up on the play. while
Mumme nearly threw out his
arm. Following a questionable
fourth quarter call in which
Whalen fumbled. the UK skipper
slung a towel on the field. result-
ing in a 15-yard UK penalty for
unsportsmanlike conduct. “This
was our best game this year,"
Mumme said. “Against a Top 20
team like that. it was a tremen-
dous effort on both sides of the
ball. It was a team win.“

A little bit of Quentin is all I
need. Wide receiver Quentin MC~
Cord tallied two touchdowns in
the first half. has eight recep-
tions this season five of which
are TD grabs. “This week I
found myself as a football player
again.‘ the junior said. “I rededi
cated myself to being the best

A little bit of Dougie is what
I see. Dougie Allen. a sophomore
wide receiver chalked up a
miraculous score on a 24- yard
bomb for the Cats second score

of the game He racked up 50
yards on four catches before suf-
fering what appeared to be a sea-
son-ending knee injury. “It could
be bad." Mumme said. Allen
sported street clothes during the
second half and will receive an
MRI this week.

A little bit of kicking in the
sun. Wow. what a kicking team
the Cats have put on the field
this season. Sophomore Marc
Samuel has split the uprights
eight times now on nine tries in-
cluding his 42- yard fourth- --quar
ter boot against the Hogs. Senior
Andy Smith punted three times
for 150 yards. That‘s a lot of
hang-time. You do the math. Per-
haps Coach Mumme might think
twice about fake punts in future
games. Nah...

A little bit of Dusty all night
long. While the defense may
have stolen the show Saturday,
the studly scrambler with the
sinewy right arm was on target
the whole game through con
necting with his receivers on
some impossible deep routes.

Officials stand by scanners

Student ID troubles: Occasional glitch,
overdue accounts culprits when IDs

won't scan

By Nicole Foster
CONTRIBUTING WRITER

It's an experience that
many students have had. They
get really psyched for an event
and go to purchase tickets.
However. when they go to pur-
chase tickets. there‘s just one
small problem.

They can‘t get Laem.

“I tried to buy football tick-
ets. but the card carne up inae
tive when it was scanned." said
Sarah Stoll. a political science
and history freshman.

A number of l'K students
have experienced problems of
this nature when trying to buy
tickets for UK sporting events
with their UK II) card. which
tnust be scanned.

”The way this system
works is that it will access a
student's account and verify if
they are able to use the card for
a particular activity." said

Karen Doyle. an employee at
the [TR ll) Office.

If the card isn't magnetized
or a student has some unpaid
bills. the card may not work.

The scanners work through

the teledine system. the same
system used for Food Services.
said Rodney Stiles. an employee
at UK Athletics

"Problems occur when
cards come up unauthorized or
inactive." Stiles said.

The majority of these prob-
lettis occur at Memorial (‘olise-
ttin. but hardly ever at places
like The Commons Market. he
said.

"In order to tell ifa student
is active. we will pttt their in»
formation into the computer
attd then pull up their file to
verify them." Doyle said.

Some people do not accept
the fact that their card will not
work. and they try to obtain
tickets anyway.

“I've seen former students
of UK try and scant their way
into obtaining tickets. 'l‘hey'll
either use their friends" cards

or try and charge it oitto a
nonexistent account." Stiles
said.

Although these ty pm of
problems do occur. they are ti\~
able.

“What we do at file It) ot‘iit-i-
is try and problem solve to we
what is wrong with the card."
Doyle said.

“lfthe card kept coming up
as either unauthori/i-d or ma.-
tive we would either encode
it. or if it was totally ilanmui-d.
make a new one." she sillil

Stiles said there have been
no major problems with the
teledine system. and instances
of fraud or malfunction are
rare.

“The scanning systems are
advantageous to students lit"

cause everything is on one
card. making it easier for

them." Doyle said.
