The University Faculty met in special session in the Assembly
”Room of Lafferty Hall Monday, November 23, 1959, at 4:00 F. M.
n President Dickey presided. No record of attendance Was made.

The minutes of November 9 were read and approved.

nary { President Dickey stated that the Kentucky Kernel had requested

‘ permission to have a reporter present at the meeting and that he would
like to get the sentiment of the Faculty in this instance, since Faculty
meetings had not heretofore been open to the Press. A motion to admit
the reporter was adopted.

3 President Dickey said that the meeting had been called to consider
the matter of a request to extend the Thanksgiving holiday by starting it

i on Wednesday, because of the football team's victory over the University

2 of Tennessee. He stated that a similar situation arose last year; the
game was played at Knoxville and following the victory, the Governor‘s

‘ proclamation of a holiday was taken as mandatory. Since that time an

? investigation had been made and the conclusion reached that the proclamation
of a holiday by the Governor is permissive rather than mandatory; therefore,
it was necessary for the matter to be acted upon by the University Faculty.

7 Following discussion. the Faculty approved a motion that "we make no devi—

, ation in the University Calendar".

The UniVersity Faculty adjourned at 4:15 Pa M.
