BIBLIOORAPHILQ SERVICE OEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
The council on Library Resources (CLR) has announced a major new
attempt to weld the existing bibliographic networks into a cooperative
in which their efforts will be coordinated. Something of the new
style of CLR under the leadership of Warren Haas is suggested by the
approach: CLR pulled together $6 Million from several foundations and
created a new body to negotiate coordination between OCLC, BALLOTS,
` and the Washington Library Network. A committee composed of the men
leading those networks: Frederick Kilgour, Edward Shaw, and Roderick
Swartz respectively, also has as members Harriet Avram, the network
brain for the Library of Congress and Carol Ishimoto of Harvard.
This program Committee will operate under the oversight of a Management
Committee composed of Frederick Burkhardt, past NCLIS Chairman and a
past President of the American Council of Learned Societies; William
Welsh, Deputy Librarian of Congress; and Warren Haas, President of CLR.

 . _q-
_ The negotiations are in the hands of CLR Program Officer C. Lee
Jones, backed up by staffers Paul B. LaGueux and George A. Parsons,
both information systems specialists.
