lost Juli 23, l9HT, the Fulton Countv Circtit Court
grunted s t ppor ry `·Lo injunction restraining ?E—CIO and its
officiels from pass picketing et Fenton Works.
Your Ccmnnnr asked for that injunction because &nrin¤
I. L .,
thc ill©5ol strike then in progress the picketing sponsoreG hi
the union lenders was in violation of the law. We felt then
one still feel thnt employes who Gesire to work here showin te
allowed to enter the plant if work is available for them. T’m
sure you no, too.
Attorneys For the Company and the Union signed e stipulr—
tion yesterday which requests the court to iismiss the comploint
against the union and to dissolve its oroer of injunction. The
stipulation was presented to the court today.
The injunction wes temporary in nature. It has been in
effect 3Q months. The circumstances which gave rise to the neeo
for it no longer exist.
Ve know that the vast majority of Canton Works employes an?
the citizens of Cwnton did not approve of the conduct of the ettite
lost July, We tivo real confidence in the fvndementol lew—¢hi’ing
nature, the desire to preserve low ond order, which is so mwah F
port of the Canton people.
For these reasons we have agreed that the injunction he
dismissed.
Very truly yours,

TO LLL Tkflflfin
`Jithin tf; ln;1 few days you have rea? much rbout the
maritime strike on the East and Nest Coasts. You prob bly felt
that it was a long wry off, that it mattered little to life in
Canton.
The opposite is true. here at Canton Works the strike was
felt at once. Lll shipments destined for foreign s;les wire stcppe€.
From that point on, workmen were boxing orders of machines which
could not be shipped. The Warehouse already carried 2 larie inventory
of machines packed in export crates. Last weeh's work in the Export
section brought our inventory still higher. The Nsrehevse now con-
tains an excessive quantity of merchandise built and packaged for
foreign markets.
Thus, we find ourselves faced with the undesirable {tty of
laying off l5 probationary employes so that the longer r;rvLce
export packers can be transferred to other work.
lf the maritime workers went back to work tomorrow, it world
be many days before we could again arrange passage for err cfnort
products. Tt would be an even longer time before we cowl? ag ··... in
assemble export orders.
Therefore, in fairness to these short service employes, we
are terminating their services rather than give them tcmporrrf lay—
offs. They should feel free to accept employment elsewhere.
We regret that it beceme necessary to let these li euplojcs
go, but the circumstances demanding it are beyond our control,
Very truly yours,
'
