FROM THE ADMINISTRATIVE COMMITTEE. . . A
. OCLC is doing a limited unbundling of charges in 1982. The major price ‘
increase has been in telecommmications and OCLC is going to look at g
developing their own teleconmunications. They are also looking at the ‘
possibility of developing electronic mail and document delivery. They i
have the capability to monitor the use of their terminals and have ,
found some abuse in terminal use. The Total Library System will be up `
in 1983 on Hewlett Packard equipment and the local Library System will go i
up on Digital hardware. SOLINET will continue Lambda and help finance it ‘
with retrospective conversion projects.
. King Library will be open the day after Thanksgiving this year. In previous
years it has been closed for fumigating. The Library System closes at .
4:30 p.m. on December 23rd.
The Pirdle and Peal Programs went very well. The Development Office is {
going to do a brief feature on the Peal Collection for its annual University ,
Fellows dinner.
The Library has received the Graduate School capital equipment grant for a
high speed terminal. A MODEM has to be purchased out of library funds. `
The meeting was turned over to Tom Waldhart and a discussion followed on I I
what kind of a priority assessment report we will be presenting to the Y
Chancellor. It was decided to do a report that would have a system over- i
view and a chapter for each division. We would also do a broad estimate of
what our processes cost us. A work sheet will be devised and distributed. ,
