Collection Overview

Biography / History
Minnie Sue Lane Durrum Stevens Nelson was born June 23, 1929, in Fayette County. She graduated from Versailles High School, attended UK, and later worked for over forty years for the state as a graduate accountant in human resources. A celebrated fast-ball pitcher, she was inducted into the KY Softball Hall of Fame in 1997. Collection contains a scrapbook, which includes baseball cards of Nelson and other female fast-pitch softball players throughout the Bluegrass region, as well as her Hall of Fame plaque.

The Minnie Sue Lane Durrum Stevens Nelson scrapbook (dated 1949-2004; 1.2 cubic feet; 1 box, 1 wrapped item) comprises a scrapbook which documents the softball career of Nelson and other female fast-pitch softball players throughout the Bluegrass region of Kentucky, as well as her Hall of Fame plaque. The scrapbook contents are arranged chronologically. Players and coaches featured at the front of the scrapbook include: Kathleen Hockensmith, June Smither, Bettie Childers, Lois Johnson, Minnie Sue Durrum, Elizabeth Douglas, Jean Belcher, Peggy McFadden, Louise (Allen) Lane, Pat Perdue, Ann Sayles, Margaret Winfrough, Pat Kent, Jean True, Rose Chasteen, Pauline Jackson, Dawn Brislan, Ella (Red) Flynn; Coaches: Noble McDougal, A.G. Perry, Dickie [?], Ike Wingate.
