and theatrical manager. She was born in London, as was her
sister Sophia. From the proceeds of a play written by Sophia
tha sisters established a achool at Bath. They both wrote.
Ha.rriet' princL a1 work was the one mentioned in the letter,
Canterhg_y Tales, ta which Sophia contribuied. They came out

between 1797 and 1805, a series of twelve stories w} ich be
c-ame verv nopular. Lord Byron drarnatired one of the tales,
”Kruitzner' 3.5 Werner on the Inheritance. Both sisters died
at C] iftnn. Harriet is supposed t0 have been much admired by
William Godwin, but she rejected his offer of marriage.
