Dear Sir,

Your letter of the 26 ult only reached me yesterday.
It has run the Gauntlet of every post office in London — pray ac—
cept my best thanks for it & the thanks of our Committee for your
liberal patronage of the object which we have in view & which ad—
vances I hope as it ought to do. We have sent letters to every part
of Europe & trust that due honour will be made to the memory of the
illustrious Scott.

We hear constantly from my brother David from Switzerland. I wish
he were here that we might go together to pay you our personal re—
spects.

I am much flattered by your approval of Zohrab. Opinions such as
yours are worth having & I assure you that I appreciate it much.

My mother & sisters are quite well & join with me in wishing the

Compt of the season.

James Justinian Morier (I780?~1849), diplomatist, traveller, and
novelist; wrote "Zohrab the Hostage" in 1852. He Was praised bi

Sir Walter Scott in the Quarterly Review as "the best novelist of
the day". David Richard Morier (1784-1877), his brother was Minister
the the Swiss Confederation from June 5, 1832 to 1847.
