Publisher of Edinburgh, expert on Semitic, Near 5as1

a.l.s., app. 8vo, 6 Oxford Terrace, Edinburgh, 8 Oct,
1885, to Mr gdag, saying he had called to see A and
Mrs Black, but failed, then realized A would be at
Musselburgh; sends with letter a wedding present he
selected in Florence last April, but only just
received. Watermark of medieval lady & unicorn, on
either side of a shield with anchor atop. v.g9

"Mr Adam" seems to have been Adam Black, son of the
Adam Black who published the fincyclopaedia Britannica
and the waverley Novels. The sons took the publish-
ing business to London in 1895.
