Norwich 12 Nov., 1769, being the daughter of
Dr. James Alderson, Ll well-known physician of
that city. In 1798 she became the second wife of
John ()pie the painter, on whose decease in 1807
she returned to Norwich, never thencefm‘th to quit
it as 11 home. Among her numerous tales, which
were once highly populzir, we may mention ‘ The
Father and Daughter,’ ‘ Murder will Out,’ “The
Rnflian Boy,’ ‘ The Odd-tempered Man,’ ‘ ’I‘emper,’
‘ St. Valentine’s Day,’ and ‘ Illustrations of Lying.’
In 1825 she joined the Society of Friends, and after
this published only ‘Detrziction Displayed,’ and
‘ Lays for the Dead.’ She died at her residence in
the Castle Meadow Norwich, 2 Dee, 18,33.
