     Called Meeting of August 28th, 1902.

     Called meeting of the Board of Trustees of the A.
& M. College, held at the President's room, on the college
grounds, Lexington, Ky., August 28th, 1902. at twelve
O'clock M.



      Call for Meeting.

      We the undersigned members of the Board of Trustees
of the Agricultural & Mechanical College of Kentucky, hereby
request a called meeting of said Board, to convene in the
city of Lexington, Ky., in the President's room on the
grounds of said college, about the hour 12 o'clock M. on
Shursday the 28th day of August, 1902: for the purpose of
receiving and acting upon the report of Geo. S. Shanklin,
attorney, relative to the title to the Pepper property: to
consider the propriety of consumating the proposed purchase
of the Pepper property for the State in view of the numerous
defects and irregularities pointed out in said report: and
to bake up, consider, and act upon all questions relating
to the location and erection of a girl's dormitory for
the college.

      In pursuance of the above request, a meeting of the
Board is hereby called to convene at the time and place,
and for the purpose above indicated.

      Portions of Minutes of Ex. Com. & Brd.

      The minutes of the Executive Committee of the meeting
of June 20th, 1902., with reference to the purchase of the
Pepper property were also read. Also the resolution of the
Board of Trustees at it's June meeting, 1902 on same matter.

     The following motion was made by Judge Kinkead:
     Sec'y. Directed to read abstract title to Pepper
Property.

       t is moved that the Secretary read the abstract of
the Pepper property, together with the opinion on same,
prepared by Geo. S. Shanklin. Said motion was seconded by
Mr. Stoll, and upon the roll call the vote stood as follows:

      Ayes: Frazee, Stoll, Bradburn, Barker, Ferguson,
Kinkead, Patterson and Clay, - 8.

      Noes: Lindsay and Nelson - 2.


      The motion was carried.



      Thereupon the Secretary read said abstract and opinion,
and the letter of Mr. Shanklin transmitted this abstract
to Mr. Frazee.



      Thereupon Judge Barker made the following motion:

      Mr. Shanklin's bill ordered paid.

      It is moved that the bill of Mr. Geo. S. Shanklin,
for preparing abstract of title to Pepper property, amounting
to $50 be paid.


      Said motion was duly seconded, and upon the roll
call the vote stood as follows:

      Ayes: Messrs. Frazee, Lindsay, Stoll, Bradburn,
Barker, Ferguson, Nelson, Kinkead, Patterson, and Clay - - 10,

      Noes:  None - The motion was carried.

      Thereupon after some informal discussion the following
motion was made by Judge Barker:

      Recess. - I move that we now take a recess until 2-30
O8lock P. M.  today. Said motion was seconded, put upon itIs
passage and carried.



      Board met at 2-30

      Judge Barker made the following Motion:

      Absentees excused. It is moved that the excuses of
the absent members of this Board, viz: Messrs. Fowler,
Marcum, and Hager be accepted. Said motion was duly
seconded and carried.


      Pres. Patterson offers to take Prop. & convey same
to College.

      Thereupon Judge Barker stated to the Board that he had
been authorized to state for President Jas. K. Patterson
and Prof. Walter K. Patterson that in order to save the
college harmless by reason of any defect which might exist
in the title to the Pepper property they would purchase
the property of the Misses Pepper and the Trustees, and
re-convey to the College by a general. warranty deed the
property for the sum of $10,500.

      Thereupon the following motion was made by Col.
Nelson:

      College directed to purchase Pepper prop. from Pres.
Patterson.

      Be it resolved that the Executive Committee of this
Board be directed on behalf of this Board to purchase from
James K. Patterson and Walter K. Patterson the property
on South Limestone Street, Lexington, Ky. known as the
Pepper property, upon the execution by them to the college
of a General Warranty deed to said property, at a price of
not exceeding $10,500; and further that the Chairman of the
Executive Committee be, and he hereby is authorized to execute
the note of the College to Messrs. James K. Patterson and
Walter K. Patterson, for the purchase price of said property,
payable on demand, and bearing interest at five per cent,
per annum, from date until paid, upon the delivery to him
of a proper deed, as herein provided for.

      Said motion was duly seconded, and upon the roll call
the vote stood as follows:

      Ayes: Messrs. Frazee, Lindsay, Bradburn, Barker,
Ferguson, Nelson, Bell, McChord, Ramsey, Patterson and
Clay, - 11.

      Noes: Messrs. Stoll and Kinkead - 2.

      The motion was carried.


      During the calling of the roll on the vote on the last
resolution above Mr. Stoll asked the privilege to have his
reasons for his vote spread upon the minutes. Upon this
being objected to, the chairman ruled that said reasons
could not go upon the minutes; and the statement was made
by certain members of the Board that a resolution would
be hereafter passed allowing to all members the right to
prepare their reasons for voting as they did, and to have
same spread upon the minutes of this meeting.

     Thereupon the following motion was made by President
Patterson:

      Governor asked to ascertain whether remittance had
been made under Morrill Act.

      Be it resolved that his Excellency, the Governor of
Kertucky, be requested to ascertain from the Auditor of
Public Accounts whether the annual remittance under the
Morrill Act of 1890, has been made to the State authorities;
and if so to have the Auditor draw a warrant in favor of
the college for the amount of same.

      Said motion was seconded, and carried.



      Thereupon, upon motion of Judge Barker, duly
seconded, the Board adjourned.
