ADOLPH RUPP I have heard "Great Moments" many times and every time it gives me additional thrills. You will never realize the great memories that are recorded for you in this record and I believe everyone will get tremendous thrills in reliving these great evenings.
' CAWOOD LEDFORDThere were no notes or lists of questions. The only thing we had was a list of game tapes which were coming up next. Rupp didn't have a single note, and yet he was right every time.
' JOE CALDWELL, Lexington LeaderThe idea for the record originated nearly a year ago and it has taken a dozen people 10 months to put it together. It has been done by the Committee of 101 not because the Committee wanted a money-making project for this year, but just a basketball related project to concentrate on. Now it looks as if they have struck a gold mine.
MIKE MERSCH, Ky. Post & Times StarThe record is an invaluable page in history. It captures the highlights and the disappointments of a career that may never be equaled.

GOVERNOR LOUIE B. NUNN, the Commonwealth' chief executive and chairman of the Board of Trustees, believes strongly that self-reliance, pride and courage are the by-products of intercollegiate athletics. His interest in Kentucky basketball was emphasized when he presented his first "Governor's Trophy" to Wildcat Coach Adolph Rupp. Gov. Nunn, 45, is a native of Barren County. He attended Bowling Green Business University, the University of Cincinnati and the University of Louisville, where he earned a law degree in 1950. He is an avid sportsman and spectator and a successful attorney who has served in both executive and judicial positions. The third Republican this century to be elected Governor in Kentucky, he formerly served as a county judge and city attorney.
K
PRESIDENT OTIS A. SINGLETARY came to Lexington from the University of Texas, Austin, where he was executive vice chancellor for academic affairs. Dr. Singletary, who is eighth president of the University, served a total of eight years at Texas, progressing during seven (1954-61) of those years from instructor to professor, associate dean of Arts and Sciences and assistant to the president. Then for five years (1961-66), he was chancellor of the University of North Carolina, although he was on leave from October 1964 to January 1966 to serve as director of the Job Corps, Office of Economic Opportunity.

ATHLETICS DIRECTOR HARRY C. LANCASTERMissing from the University of Kentucky basketball bench this season is the familiar figure of Harry C. Lancaster, who stepped up as athletic director late last season after being associated with Adolph Rupp since 1946. Lancaster remained as Rupp's chief assistant until last season's end and then left the coaching ranks to concentrate on the complex job of running the Wildcat athletics program. A native of Paris, he is a graduate of Georgetown College with a master's degree from the University of Kentucky. ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT BENEFITS FROM WILDCAT PRINT SALES
Animal Graphics, Inc., publisher of the Gene Gray wild animal prints, and First Security National Bank & Trust Co. recently presented to the University of Kentucky Athletics Association a $10,000 check representing initial sales of Gray's "Kentucky Wildcat."
SIGNING TIMEKentucky basketball coach Adolph Rupp (left), athletic director Harry C. Lancaster and football coach John Ray pose pen in hand while wildlife artist Gene Gray witnesses the signing of an original "Kentucky Wildcat" print.
The "Wildcat" (Lynx rufus) was released in an edition print limited to 3,500 copies signed by Gray.
Three thousand of the prints are being sold through the company's normal channels of distribution, which includes dealers throughout the State of Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee.
The remaining 500 prints have been issued in a special series entitled "Kentucky Wildcat" and are unique in that they have been autographed personally by UK athletic director Harry Lancaster, football coach John Ray and basketball coach Adolph Rupp, as well as artist Gray.
These prints are being sold for $100 each and the entire proceeds will be donated to the UK Athletic Department.
First Security is acting as trustee of the funds and has made prints available through its main office, branches and correspondent banks throughout the state.
Each purchaser of the print will also get a certificate of guarantee that the "Kentucky Wildcat" print is one of only 500 reproduced exactly the same size as the original painting and that the entire proceeds from the sale of these 500 prints will go to the UK Athletic Department.

Stan Key started playing with a rubber ball when he was four, joined an organized basketball team in the fifth grade, graduated from Calloway County High School as a four-year starter with an amazing 2,100 career points and made the starting team at the University of Kentucky on his 20th birthday.
The cool redhead from Hazel, Ky., entered the Auburn game Feb. 2 under most unusual pressure for a sophomore. The Tigers, led by John Men-gelt, had zipped to leads of 13-3, 15-5 and 22-11 as Adolph Rupp's Wildcats tried to get their offensive and defensive attacks in gear.
Mengelt did the most damage in those opening minutes, scoring against Bob McCowan the first five times he got the ball.
Rupp looked down the bench, called time out and sent in Key to put the "stopper" on Auburn's hot junior guard.
Key, who turned 20 that day, had accumulated playing time of less than 100 minutes in 14 games.
"I put Stan in because McCowan couldn't handle Mengelt," Rupp said. "I not only put him in for defense, but for offense as well."
"I was scared to death," Key said. "I knew the main reason I went in was to stop Mengelt. I didn't do too good a job."
Rupp disagreed. "Mengelt only made one basket and some free throws before Stan fouled out," he said. "Stan did a fine job."
The big surprise was on offense, however, as Key took the ball on the left flank, noticed the defense collapsing on center Dan Issel and bombarded a net-tickling jump shot from 25 feet. Key hit five of those shots in a row and the 'Cats were back in the game.
"Just one of those nights," Key said later. "You need a lot of luck."
The performance earned a starting berth for Key, who played well against Mississippi and Mississippi State the following weekend and took a firm hold on a starting position.
"I knew I had the chance to start," he said. "I was just hoping that everything would go together."
During a brilliant high school career which included unanimous All-State honors, Key was a 5-1 1 starter with an eight-point average as a freshman. He grew to 6-1 that first year and added another inch as a junior. Since he was the biggest man on the team, he usually played forward or the pivot. He played a little at guard during his senior year.
One of his great high school moments was a regional scoring record of 53 points set against
South Marshall. He also lettered four years in
baseball, hitting .531 as a senior.
An honor student, Key was playmaker and a
steadying influence on the 1968-69 freshman
team. He averaged 12 points a game for the
Kittens.

Does a store have to put on a side show
to get attention?
Must there be psychedelic lights? Electronic sounds? Knock-em-dead decor?
Or can't it just be a nice place to shop. With lots of handsome clothes. To see. To try. To buy.
With great men's clothes, for example. In many more than one measly size. Plus lots of exclusives. Which does guarantee one a certain measure of individuality. Isn't that enough?
Or must all salespeople be strictly under 25? Can't there be a judicious mix of people? There is something to be said for the older man, you know. He's awfully savvy about wlmt to wear, where and when. And can save you time, money.
Now maybe all this sounds fuddy-duddy. But you'd be surprised at how much noise the quiet approach generates. Not ear-splitting, to be sure. But more enduring than the here today, gone tomorrow razzmatazz.
To see the quiet one in action, come to Graves, Cox . . . downtown and in Turfland.

'Nation's Winningest Basketball Coach" (39 YearsWon 810, Lost 17582.2%)
The induction of Adolph Rupp into the Nai-smith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame last spring in Springfield, Mass., was fitting tribute to a man whose name is synonymous with college basketball.
Known as "Der Baron of Basketball," "The Man in a Brown Suit," and various other names of distinction, Rupp has reaped honor upon honor during 39 years as coach of the world famed Wildcat cage teams.
He is the undisputed winningest coach of all time with 810 victories against only 175 defeats and is one of basketball's most popular clinic and after-dinner speakers.
The name of Rupp, feared and respected in opponents' hearts and beloved by the millions who have witnessed the remarkable success of his Wildcat cage teams, has become synonymous with the game of basketball.
Such unprecedented recognition for the fabulous mentor is only natural since his success in the past 39 years as head man of the fabled Kentucky cage thoroughbreds has been nothing short of phenomenal. It would take a book longer than his own technical best-seller, "Championship Basketball," to recite the record completely. Briefly, however, that record, in addition to Hall of Fame membership, includes:
An amazing 810 victories out of 985 starts for an unparalleled winning percentage of better than 82.2 percent against major competition. Certification by the NCAA Service Bureau as the nation's most successful collegiate basketball coach, both for the decade ending in 1961 and at the 20-year level.
Selection as the unanimous national "Coach of the Year" in 1966 for the fourth time in his career and runner-up for the 1957 and 1964 seasons.
Honored in 1967 by Columbus (Ohio) Touchdown Club as "Coach of the Century."
Four NCAA Tournament championships picked up by
his Wildcats who hold the all-time record of 17 appearances in the national classic and can claim more victories in NCAA play (28) than any other team.
Coach of the International Universities Tournament champions in 1966.
A nominal world championship as co-coach of the successful USA entry in the 1948 Olympic Games which included members of Kentucky's NCAA champions.
Producer of more Olympic gold medallion winners (7) than any other cage coach.
An all-time record total of 24 Southeastern Conference titles since the league was organized in 1933.
Election to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1959 and previous selection (in 1946) by Helms Athletic Foundation as a member of their exclusive Hall of Fame.
Trustee and member of selection and honors committees of Basketball Hall of Fame. Also chairman NABC Hall of Fame Committee and heads the group that selects players to appear in East-West All-Star Game benefitting the Hall of Fame.
Recipient of the Governor's Medallion in 1959 for meritorious service to the Commonwealth of Kentucky and plaques of appreciation from the U.S. Air Force (1959) and Sugar Bowl committee (1951).
Election to the Kentucky Hall of Fame (1945), outstanding citizen of Lexington (1949) and twice honorary citizen of the City of New Orleans. Enrolled in the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame in 1965.
Chosen "Deltasig of the Year" for 1966 by the International Fraternity of Delta Sigma Phi, professional fraternity in commerce and business administration.
Development of more All-Americans (25 players honored 36 times) and more material for the pro ranks (26) than any other coach.
Five Sugar Bowl Tournament championships, a National Invitation Tournament title and 1 1 trophies from the 16 previous UK Invitational Tournaments.
Membership on the NCAA Basketball Rules Committee.
More overseas clinic trips (seven to Europe, three to the Far East, and one to the Near East) for U.S. Government than any other coach. Also visited Alaska in 1968.
Selected as an official goodwill ambassador to the 1968
Olympics in Mexico City representing the National
Association of Basketball Coaches. Election to Kansas Hall of Fame. SEC coach-of-the-year again in 1968. Honored as Outstanding Kentuckian by Southeastern
Kentucky Homecoming Committee at Booneville, Ky ,
in 1969.

153-155 EAST MAIN STREET AND TURFLAND MALL ASSISTANT COACH JOE B. HALLFormer Wildcat basketeer Joe B. Hall enters his fifth season on the staff of Coach Adolph Rupp and is destined to play a strong role in the Wildcat program, present and future. The 40-year-old native of Cynthiana took over the freshman team late last season when Harry C. Lancaster moved up tc athletic director and began easing out of the coaching scene. In addition to the frosh, Hall inherits the position of good, strong right hand to Rupp, the world's winningest basketball coach. A successful coach for nine years prior to joining the Rupp staff in July, 1965, as coach, scout and recruiter, Hall transferred from Central Missouri State, where he spent the 1964-65 season as head coachposting a 19-6 record and gaining CMS's first MIAA Conference championship since 1951. Hall entered coaching following graduation from UK in 1955. He spent two years at Shephardsville High, achieving Coach of the Year honor in the Mid-Kentucky Conference in both 1957 and 1958. Moving into the collegiate field, he served one season as freshman coach and then five years as head coach at Regis College in Denver, Colo.
ASSISTANT COACH T. L. PLAINThe newest member of the Wildcat staff, Plain joined Coach Rupp in July and is no stranger to the UK scene, having served as a graduate assistant after leaving Kentucky Wesleyan College to work on an advance degree here in 1963-64. At Wesleyan, the 43-year-old Navy veteran compiled a 63-34 won-loss record while serving as athletic director, coach and associate professor of physical education from 1959-63. A native of Sacramento, Ky., he received his B.S. at Western Kentucky University and later attended Murray State, Indiana University and UK. He was athletic director, teacher and coach at Breckinridge County High from 1949-53; teacher, athletic director and coach at Henderson City High from 1953-57, and teacher and coach at Lincoln High in Vincennes, Ind., from 1957-59. Plain returned to Vincennes in 1964 as director of physical education for the Community School Corp. and basketball coach at Lincoln High. He left thefe-in__L967 to become assistant basketball coach and assistant coordinator of the student teaching program at the University of Louisville.
ASSISTANT COACH DICK PARSONS-A former Wildcat baseball All-America Parsons had the distinction of serving as captain of both the UK basketball and baseball teams in 1961. He returned for post-graduate studies last winter and helped scout basketball foes.
