Mr. Peterson submitted Agreement between the Security Trust Com- I  
pany, executor and trustee of the estate of Elise Shackleford, and others. ` ?
He explained that Elise Shackleford died testate and made Transylvania Col- ;  
lege and the University of Kentuckym-Medical School beneficiaries at the deaths i i
of beneficiaries to whom the estate was left during their natural lives. Mr. ` Y
Peterson explained that, a few days prior to the death of Elise Shackleford, V 5
she dictated a memorandum to a friend distributing certain personal items. E
The value of these items is appraised at less than $500., 00; their significant .
value is in the sentiment attached to them. The other beneficiaries, Rosa I  
T. McCarthy, Washington, D.C.;; Mrs. Mary M. March, Lexington, and I 5
.Miss Curtis Buehler, Lexington, desire to waive their interest in these per- ' -
.s0nal items to permit the will of Elise Shackleford to be carried out, even I -
though her memorandum is not legally certified. Dean Matthews, of the College j
of Law, and Mr. Peterson recommended that the University consent and Ig
execute the Agreement on behalf of the University of Kentuckye-Medical School. by

of Governor Chandler, and that he desired to recommend that the Medical Center  
be named in honor of the Governor of the Commonwealth, "The Albert B. i
Chandler Medical Center". The recommendation was enthusiastically received, i
Governor Chandler demurring and vacating the chair. - l

taking the vote, the new Medical Center was named "The Albert B. Chandler ,
Medical Center", in honor of the Honorable Albert Benjamin Chandler, Governor { ll

President Dickey stated that The Albert B. Chandler Medical Center ;  
would eventually require about 50 acres southeast of the campus, that the new I Q
proposed men' s dormitory needed to be constructed east of Donovan Hall on the  
site now known as the football practice field. There will be agricultural and I Q
academic buildings and housing facilities constructed in the future further expande _ L
ing the University campus east and southeast. He stated that the University '  
baseball field and intramural area were crowded and needed space for various · Q
purposes. He recommended that the land area north of a proposed dividing line 2  
extending Cooper Drive and carrying same to Waller Avenue be declared a part ; ‘
ofthe campus of the University and used for further expansion. He recommend- ‘  
ed that a part of this area be used for intramural facilities, baseball diamond `  
and football practice field and site for other athletic facilities. {
Members of the Board dscussed the recommendation and the future I
expansion of the University facilities in relation to the work of the firm, Hare I L
and Hare, campus planners, and upon motion duly made, seconded and carried, ‘ 4
allocated all of the land area north of line extending from Cooper Drive on the '
east to Waller Avenue on the west side of the Experiment Station Farm, and i

President Dickey reported request of Frank J. Welch, Dean and Director,  
that Dr. Lee H. Townsend, Acting Head of the Department of Entomology and  
Botany since July 1, 1957, be appointed head of the department. He stated that {
he and Doctor Welch had explored the field and, after giving careful considera-— `
tion to Doctor Townsend’ s excellent background of training and his twenty odd j
years of service to the University, were of the opinion that he is the best
qualified person available for the headship of this important department. Pres—= j I
