MICHIGAN LIBRARY SCHOOL OFFERS RESEARCH LIBRARY
SPECIALIZATION MV
The University of Michigan School of Library Science has received a
grant from the Council on Library Resources for the purposes of pro-
viding an expanded program for the professional education of research
librarians. With the support of this funding, the School of Library
Science will offer, effective Fall, 1981, a specialized curriculum in
research librarianship requiring twenty months of study. The program
will incorporate four trimesters of formal course work, including
considerable study in cognate areas; a four-month internship in a
research library; and the substantial involvement of research librar-
ians. , y
The School of Library Science will be awarding within the next several
weeks a limited number of fellowships to qualified applicants. These `
fellowships will cover all tuition and fees (approximately $11,500 for
out—of—state students and $5,500 for in-state students) and will provide
each student with a stipend of $7,200. Persons accepted into the pro-
gram must meet all regular requirements for admission to the Schoo1's
master‘s degree program. In addition, it is desirable for them to
_ possess strong analytical, mathematical, and communications skills.
Graduates of the program will receive the A.M.L.S. degree. They should
have an advantage over other graduates in seeking responsible employment
in a research library, and it is expected that they will tend to advance
relatively rapidly into middle and upper level management positions.
Interested persons should apply by dune ll
