NCAA TOURNAMENT
Tuesday, March 8 Memorial Coliseum
2 GAMES 7:30 AND 9:30 P.M.
Tickets on sale now through the mail and at the UK Athletics Ticket Office Kemucky Cage Chief Adolph Frederick Rjpp poses amidst some of the "hardware" won by the Wildcats during his 25-year tenure as a maker of champions. Among the many awards represented by the trophies are 13 Southeastern Conference Tournament championships, three NCAA Tournament titles, an NIT first, Olympic Trials championship, and five National Champion designations by Helms Athletic Foundation.
Tonight's game climaxes (but possibly does not complete) Coach Rupp's Silver Anniversary season as basketball coach at the University of Kentucky.
It has been a long and sometimes rocky road since May 22, 1930, but the famed "Man In The Brown Suit" can look back on an honor-studded career that has seen his Wildcats rise to the pinnacle of a perennial power in the basketball world and his own name heralded to the four corners of the globe.
Rupp's Raiders, going into tonight's game, have won 517 and lost only 84 for a winning average of better than 86 percent and this stamps their coach as the game's greatest victory producer of all time and deserving of the finest tribute that can be paid to one who is due so much.

page five MEMORIAL COLISEUM
Only a little more than a quarter century ago, the UnivtVt'ity of Kentucky provided its basketball team with its second home a magnificent new Alumni Gymnasium seating 2,800 spectators.
A great many persons freely suggested that the arena would prove to be a "white elephant" which would never be crowded to anywhere near capacity by the sport that then was considered little more than an innocuous winter-month's pastime.
But the hardwood game blitzed the nation and Kentucky's teams forged to the national forefront in such a crowd-pleasing manner that the "huge" hall soon could not begin to accommodate the large number of fans seeking to whet their new-found interest. In fact, the situation soon developed to the point where only the student body and faculty were admitted and for several years about all that Kentuckians at large knew of their state university's famed cage teams consisted of information gleaned from the press and radio.
In 1941, when Dr. H. L Donovrn became president of the University, one of his first recommendations was for a building "that will properly take care of our athletics, our health service, physical education, and recreation." From this beginning came the plan that culminated in the construction of 12,000-seat Memorial Coliseum, an unparalleled edifice costing $3,925,000 by the time it was completed in 1950.
The huge building, which serves as a memorial to the nearly 10,000 Kentucky heroes who lost their lives in World War II and the Korean conflict, covers an entire city block and contains as much space as a seven-story office building. Situated along Avenue of Champions, the Coliseum is used primarily for basketball games but also serves as the site of a sellout community concert and lecture series as well as numerous physical education classes and conventions.
In sharp contrast to the early days in Alumni Gym, the present hall plays host to more than 100,000 Kentuckians annually for appearances of the famous Wildcat cage teams alone and interest is increasing with sucl strides that even this splendid arena may someday be outgrown.
page six ADOLPH RUPP
The world's poorest prophet, but a coaching genius with a rare talent for consistently winning national championships.
That's the University of Kentucky's fabulous cage mentor Adolph Rupp who this year celebrates his Silver Anniversary at the helm of Wildcat basketball with an incomparable career winning average of 85.6 percent for 496 victories out of 578 starts.
Amazing as his coaching success has been, the usually astute Baron Rupp found himself on the losing end as a prophet last season. The Wildcats of 1954 made a clean sweep through a 25-game schedule and disproved their coach's prophecy of some years ago that "no major school playing a major schedule can go through a season undefeated."
The "impossible" feat of last year's Kentucky team in becoming the biggest-winning, perfect-record unit of all time climaxed an un-paralled honor roll of coaching successes that have stamped Rupp as the nation's most winning cage mentor. In the 24 years he has been at Kentucky, he's won the Southeastern Conference title 15 times, the NCAA Tournament championship three times, and the National Invitation Tournament once as well as Olympic Trials collegiate bracket laurels and a nominal world's championship through participation with the AAU Phillips Oilers as the USA entry in the 1948 Olympic Games. Coach Rupp is the first coach to guide his teams to three NCAA and one NIT titles.
Besides the distinction of an even 100 victories against only 21 defeats covering action in 21 national classics (NCAA, NIT, UK Invitational and Sugar Bowl Tournament) plus 21 conference meets and the '48 Olympics, Rupp has guided his Wildcat teams to national championships in the Associated Press Poll four times in the last six years and produced no less than 24 Ail-Americans.
Furthermore, the UK mentor goes into the current season in possession of another record that no other coach or school comes even close to threatening124 consecutive wins on the home floor. No Rupp-coached Kentucky team has been beaten at home since Ohio State turned the trick on Jan. 2, 1943approximately twelve years ago!

HARRY LANCASTER
Baron Rupp's capable right hand man is Harry Lancaster. As the first full-time assistant basketball coach in Kentucky's history and one of the few aides of this type in the country, he is in charge of convincing the best schoolboy cagers to cast their lot with the Wildcats and is responsible for their development as yearlings ones they are in the Kentucky stable. He also handles the gruel'mg assignment of scouting future opponents. The success that he has shown in his endeavors is reflected in Kentucky's phenomenal success as a team respected and feared the world over. Coach Rupp is the first to give his assistant much credit for past developments, particularly the coaching assistance that Lancaster provided last season. Coach Lancaster, a native graduate of Georgetown College, came to Kentucky in 1942. A high-came in the summer of 1951 when he served the U. S. State Depart -a consultant to the Greek Basketball Federation.
