In our Safety News this month, let us give a little consideration to »
our Jobs. You know that when we accept a job we obligate ourselves
to do a few nwre things than merely to do the work we are called upon y
to do and earn the pay that such work carries. “
Before you even start to work, you may have sighed a contract pledging _
yourself to work safely, that you will, if you are not, become trained
in first aid and that you will provide yourself with all of the pro- ‘ ‘
tection that you should have. This contract is for your protection.
Our obligations are not only to ourselves, but they are to our families,
they are to our fellow workers, and they are to our employers, It is
. our job to work safely to protect ourselves and others from injury. he
owe this to ourselves, our families, GHI fellow workers, and the
COmpHHy• ._
' _ It is our job to keep our mindoen our work — always. A moment’s for-
· getfullncss may cause us months of regret. It is our job to help our
fellow workers and the officials of the company make our mines as near
lOO per cent safe as we can get them. It is our job to know that ·
accidents are a black eye to both workers and the company.
It is our job to do our work so that we will not cause injury to our
fellow workers. It is our job to think before acting for we know that
most accidents can be blamed to I DIDN'T THINK. M
It is our job to get first aid treatment for any injury, no matter
how small, at once. We cannot afford to take chances with infection.
l It is our job to see that we or others do not take chances. It does
not pay to gamble with safety. If we must gamble, let it not be with
the happiness of our family, _ `
It is our job to handle tools, coal, rock and other material so we
¤ will not get injured. A good workman is known by the skilled and safe
way he handles himself. ;
It is our job to use all the safeguards for our protection, safe ·
clothing, hard toed shoes, eye protectors, and lastly, it is always ` N
our job to set a good example by working the safe way. By doing this, `
we encourage others to do the same and we thus help to make the record
in safety that we should have. —
