Minutes of the University Faculty, November 2, 1353

The University Faculty met in the Assembly Room of Lafferty Hall,
Monday, November 9, 1953, at 4:00 p.m.
Vice President Leo M. Chamberlain presided. The following members were
absent: Charles Barkenbus, L. A. Bradford, Anne Clemmons‘, Frank G.
Dickey‘, W. P. Garrigus, Carter Class, Sarah B. Holmes, Gladys Kammerer,

The minutes of the regular meeting of October 12 were approved as
corrected.

In the absence of Dean Welch and Acting Associate Dean Steele, Dr.
Lee Townsend presented the following recommendations concerning new courses
and changes in courses from the College of Agriculture and Home Economics.

Animal Industry 3, Livestock Management. (1)

Change

Animal Industry 4, Advanced Livestock Management, one credit,
change to read "Livestock Management", and delete the prerequisite
A. I. 3. (Same credit and description.)

Home Economics 111, Advanced Nutrition, four credits, to be
changed to six credits.

Recommendation involves changing lectures from 2 to 3 hours;
laboratory from 4 to 6 hours.

New Courses

Agronomy 120, Soil Physics (4)
Physical groperties of soils, their relationships to management and
conservation. Lecture and discussion, two hours; laboratory four
hours. For agronomy majors and others having a special interest in
soils. Prerequisite; Agronomy 10 and approval of instructor.

 

Agronomz_142, Diseases g§_Plents. (3)
Symytoms, causes, and control of some of the more common representa-
tive plant diseases. Students may select disease problems in their
major field of interest. Discussion 1 hour; laboratory 4 hours.
Prerequisite: Agronomy 141 or equivalent, and consent of instructor.

 

These recommendations were approved by the University Faculty.

cost estimates from building construction drawings; sketching of
complex wave forms from oscillograms and eeuations. Laboratory,
six hours. Prerequisite or concurrent: E.E. 114, Junior classifi~
cation. 1

The Faculty also approved a recommendation from the College that 20

seniors and 10 juniors in the Department of Electrical Engineering be
given permission to make an inspection trip to Pittsburgh and Cleveland,

February 24-27.

In the absence of Dean Dickey, Dr. Carsie Hammonds presented a

recommendation from the College of Education that the requirements for

admission to that College be changed to read as follows:

Requirements for admission to the College of Education, as a
freshman, or with advanced standing, or as a special student, are
the same as those outlined in the General Catalog of the University
of Kentucky. In order to transfer to the College of Education from
another institution or from another college of the University, a
student must have a standing of 1.0 or higher.

 

The University Faculty approved this recommendation from the College of
Education.

Dean Carpenter presented for the College of Commerce a request for

a change in the admission requirements in that College as fOIIOWS:

Requirements for admission to the College of Commerce as a
freshman, or with advanced standing, or as a special student, are
the same as those outlined in the General Catalog of the University
of Kentucky. Students whose scores rank in the lower fourth on
the University classification tests will be advised by a Special
committee of the College of Commerce and the Personnel Office.

This change was approved by the University Faculty.

In the absence of Dean Spivey, Dr. Hargreaves presented a recomn

mendation from the Graduate Council that Ancient Languages 201, ComEara-
tive Greek and Latin Grammar, three credits, be approved. The University
Faculty voted approval of this recommendation.
