From The Rabbi’s Study

The Dedication Dinner was a great success
in so many ways. The 240 people who attended
filled the room and showed us what an excel-
faCility we have. Rick Arenstein
everyoM\ was served in about
iiLLUKH . ”a- , remarkablel
The members of the Youth Group who helped in
the kitchen, waited on tables and helped
clean up were just great! The enthusiasm and
excitement of the evening were electric. It
was so exciting! The warmth of feeling and
sentiment expressed for Charlie Stern was so
very heartwarming. I don't think we could
have accomplished what we have done without
his constant overSight. Rabbi Schindler's
speach was inspiring. He really set the mood
for what we as a congregation should be and
do. The media coverage was excellent. Our
activities are newsworthy. And Joe Miller,
as toastmaster and President, was just
right. What more could we ask!

The entire evening was a highlight of the
year — of which we have had so many high—
lights so far. I pray that the enthusiasm we
have experienced within the past months will
continue for us as we enter a new year.

From The Rabbi's Study

The recent effort , part of the
'1r:nman' ’~ :“"' ;hv Palashas of
to Israel and the unfortunate
of this effort because of the pub-
whzch occurred has highlighted the
:ragic plight of thlS long forgotten Jewish
community. They have lived in the northern
part of Ethiopia and are primarily farmers
and craftsmen. They are relatively poor and
have eked a precarious existence as a
r ncr:*v :n that country.
.A : 3 ;" 'her~ nut teen efforts to
assist some of the Falashas to get to
Israel. The American Committee for Ethiopia
Jewry has spearheaded this work, visiting
the Falashas in their home territory, as
well as helping those who escaped by walking
for almost two weeks through the desert to
Sudan to get to Israel. However, the number
of people so assisted was small, and many of
those who attempted the trek out of Ethiopia
did not survive the rigors of the journey.

Thus, the long awaited efforts of the
Israeli government were greatly applauded by
those persons who know the history of the
Falashas' efforts to seek refuge in that
country. We can only hope that this aborted
work of saving lives will be able to be
resumed very soon.

To help the plight of the Ethiopians, the
Temple has sent $50 each from our Tzedakah
Fund to the Joint Distribution Committee,
Operation Moshe and the Shaare Zedek
Hospital in Jerusaleni which is tending to
the medical needs of Falashas who arrive in
Israel. If you wish to add to this sum, as
one member has already done, send your
donations to the Temple office with the
recipient appropriately designated.

December 31, 1984

Dear Rabbi Schindler:

I received your let—
ter of the 18th, fol—

lowing the Temple
Dedication on the
16th.

Last. weekend, Chuck
and Barbara Gorodetzky
came into town from
their new home in North
Carolina and we watched
the video tape of the
Dedication dinner. I
remember being im-
pressed with your pre—
sentation that night,
but I find it signifi-

cant that a second
viewing left me awe-
struck. I cannot tell
you what a delight it
was to meet you and
share an evening with
you.

The Dedication event
was, by all measures,
a tremendous success
and a fine beginning
for the use of our
facility. Yet undoubt—
edly the memory I will
always hold of that
night will be the
pleasure of having your
presence at the event
to mark such an au, '
cious new beginning fw
our congregation.

Best regards,

Joseph H. Miller

A.R.Z.A.

Our congregation
will now list A.R.Z.A.
as a voluntary item on
Temple bills. This dues
check—off system will
be simple to administer
and will cost the con—
gregation nothing. In
fact, $2.00 of every
membership will be kept
by the congregation and
used for A.R.Z.A. ac—

tivities. This system
will also offer sub—
stantial savings on

membership: family mem—
bers will pay only
$15.00, as opposed to
a regular family mem-
bership of $25.00. The
Temple Sisterhood and
Brotherhood will also
use a dues check—off
system. If further in—
formation on A.R.Z.A.
is desired, please
contact Nat Sandler at
269~1150.

ADULT EDUCATION

Our four—week adult
