Lexington Ky. September 25th, 1865
                                   The Curators met in the
University Building at 3 o'clock P. M. Present, Messrs J. B.
Bowman, A, E. Bowman, D. W. Thompson, R. C. Ricketts, Joseph
Wasson, G. J. Allen, Benjamin Gratz, J. W. McGarvey & E. M.
Bishop.
     On motion of Curator Bowman it was resolved that the
action of the Board at its last meeting, in reference to the
Professorships of Profs. Neville, Patterson & Milligan toe odi-
fiod so as to read as follows$
     Jno. H. Neville, Professor of Greek & German
     J. K. Patterson, Professor of Latin
     A. X. Milligan, Adjunct Professor of Latin & Greek.
     On motion of Curator Bowman, J. W. McGarvey was requested
to act as secretary pro-tem until the next annual meeting of
the Board.
     The Executive Committee presented, as their report, the
record of their proceedings since the last meeting of the Board,
which was approved and adopted. R. M. Bishop

2, 1866


     At a called meeting of the Curators of Ky. University held
at the store of Allen & Boyd to receive a report from the Regent
J. B. Bowman. The following Curators were present_, R. C. Rick.
etts, J. B. Bowman, Benj. 4ratz, Joseph Wasson# J. '. Allen,
A. H. Bowman, B. B. Groom, Andrew Steele and D. S. Goodloe.
Upon motion B. ratz was called to the Chair and J. G. Allen
appointed Secretary. The Regent having reported the action of
the Legislature of Ky. Appropriating the sum of $20,000 for the
purpose of putting into operation the Ag. & Mechanical College
of Ky., upon motion the following Resolutions were unanimously
passed vizs
     Resolved. that this Board, do hereby accept the provisions
of the Act of Legislature of Ky. approved Febt 10th, 1866 appro-
priating the sum of Twenty thousand dollars out of any monies
in the Treasury to aid in putting the Ag. Mechanical College
of Ky. into immediate operation.
     "Resolved - That the Regent J. B. Bowman be hereby author-
ized to transmit a copy of these Resolutions to the Governor of
Ky. in accordance with the provisions of the aforesaid Act.
On motion the Board adjourned.

       The Report of the Ex. Com. was called for, and the
  Minutes of said Committ6o from the time of their election in
  June last to date of this meeting were offered as their
  Report through the Chairman Jno. Aug. Williams and the same
  were on notion ratified, by the notion and adoption of said
  Report.
       Curator J. B. Bowman  Special Committee correspond with
  His Ex. Gov. Brarlette and the Board of Trustees of Transy1w
  vania University, reported that he had laid before the Gov-
  ernor the action of this Board in June last, accepting the
  provisions of the recent acts of the Legislature in regard
  to Ky. University; and the corresponding Resolutions of the
  Board of Trustees of Transylvania ha-ing been likewise laid
  before his, the authority of the same under the /123/ seal
  of the Coamonwealth had been forwarded to his as Goa'l Agent
  of this Board and all other forms having been complied with
  as prescribed by law, the acts of consolidation & removal
  were now parts of the organic law of Kentucky University.
     A Comaittee on General Plan oY the University Reportod
as follows w
     The University shall embrace at least Six Colleges each
with its separate Faculty and Presiding Officer, to witS
     I College of Science Literature and the Arts.
     II Ministerial College
   III College of Law
   IV College of Medicine
     V Normal College
     VI  Agricultural and Mechanical College.
Each College shall be divided into several Schools, or
Departments of study each to be under the management of the
proper number of Professors, Instructors & Tutors as follows$

     In order to admit into the College of Science Literature
and Arts, tbe Students must be at least 14 years of age and
pass a satisfactory examination upon the elementary branches
of Zng. Grammar, Arithmetic. History, Mod. Geography Reading,
Penmanship and Oithography. In order to Graduate in this
College the Student must complete the studies of the first
6 schools in a satisfactory manner.
     In order to graduation in the Ministerial Colloge The
Student must be a Graduate of the College of Science Litera-
t~ure & the Arts, or have a corresponding amount of Scholarship,
and complete the Course herein prescribed in a satisfactory
manner. Others as the Faculty may elect in order to be ad.
Pitted to the Course in whole or in part.
     The College of Law & Medicine shall be, for the present
supported by the fees charged for Tuition in the seme.
     The Committee asked further time in which to complete
all the details of the several Colleges & Schools, which was
granted.
     The Report as for as prepared as gives above was unani-
mously adopted.
     The Committee on partial Organization offered the following
Reports
Adopting the general plan of organization as prepared by the
Committee on same, they propose the opening of three of the
Colleges next Fall on a cash basis of 14750# the probable
estimate furnished by the Treasurer, to witS

Equalizing
of Salaries


Should the Commissioners appointed by the State to sell
the Land Scrip, effect the Sale this rali, tbe Committee
recommend organization of the Agricultural & Mdchanical
College as early thereafter as practicable. For the
ensuing year they propose that the College of Science Lit.
& Art be opened under the following arrsngementsi
     R. Milligan President of the Ministerial College &
Professor therin of Hebrew & N. Greek, shall also preside
over the College of the Arts & Science, giving instruction
in the School of the Bible.
     Jno. Aug. Williams to be Professor of Intellectual &
Moral Philosophy, and also to give instruction in Nat.
History.
     H. H. White to be Professor as heretofore of Mathe-
matics. /126/
     Dr. Peter as Prof. eloct of the Agricultural College.
to be pro tem Professor of Chemistry & Ex. Philosophy.
     Dr. L. L. Pinkerton to be Prof. of Eng. Language &
Literature.
     Jno. H. Neville to be Prof. of Latin, & german & French.
     J. K. Patterson to be Prof. of Greek.
They further propose that the Ministerial College be opened
uwder the following arrangements.
     E. Milligan President & Prof. of Hebrew & N. Greek.
     Jno. W. McGarvey Prof. of Bible & its Evidence . And
that the duties of the Chair of Pastoral and Evangelical work
& Church History be for the present distributed and discharged
by then.
     On notion the foregoing schemes for ensuing year as re-
ported by the Committee was unanimously adopted whereupon the
gentlemen nominated th the various chairs was duly elected
to the same, and the Secretary was appointed a Committee to
order these chairs to the gentlemen elected.
     On motion it was further ordered that the subjedt of
Salaries so far as equaling them among the Professors and
President be referred to Ex. Coi. after conference with the
parties interested, but that it be understood that the fol-
lowing amounts shall be regarded as the minimum compensation.

     The Geal Agent was instructed to correspond with dies,
ianguished Scholars with a view to place their names in nou-
ination before the Board for the vacant Chairs in the various
Colleges of the University, & report the same at the next
meeting of the Board.
     On motion Curators, Gratz, Wasson & Steele were directed
to confer with gentlemen of the Legal Profession of Lexington
with a view to fill the vacancies existing in the College of
Law, and to report to the Ex. Cos. who was hereby ordered to
fill said vacancies this Fall if practicable.
     On motion the Board adjourned to meet on to-morrow at
8A. M.

Board set pursuant to adjournment. Present the Cure-tors as
present on yesterday and Jno. Shackelford, Jun.
     After reading and amendment of minutes - On motion of
Curator Bowman the Ex. Com. were authorized to make suitable
arrangements for the instruction of classes in French, Music
& drawing & Painting.
     The Committee on Revision of By-Laws Reported a partial
Revision which was on motion received and adopted after var-
ious amendments order Due; A.
     The Cor. decided to confer with Legal gentlemen of Lex-
ington with a view to fill the vacancies in the College of
Law, having reported the result of their conference, it was on
notion of Curator J. B. Bowman resolved
     That upon  ', C. Wasson, R. B. Buckins, W. C. Goodloe be
and hereby are appointed Faculty of the College of Law & that
the Ex. Com. be instructed to complete the details of this
College & publish the Laws in their forth coming announcement.
