by Mr. John Long has recently beenl
established to further utilize the
Courier-Journal and Louisville gg&gE§$%g; OF KENTUCKY LI§§g§§§g
Times library facilities. They L.-........4.-.---—-—~—-—M--—-~—
are offering,as a special introduction, the following services:
$500.00/year 100 searches of up to l hour each with 500 free
copies. Searches requiring more than l hour are
$25.00 per hour. Over 500 copies are 25 cents
per copy. Requests can be handled by phone or
mail.
$300.00/year This service is established for those people who
own the newspapers on microfilm. The users will
be given the date on which the material appeared
in the papers and the headline. With this
information the microfilm owner can easily locate
his information. h
$ 50.00 One shot request. Included in this will be a
one page copy of the clipping or clippings.
The Courier-Journal and Louisville Times Library houses
the complete clipping file on all editions of the Courier-
Journal and Louisville Times arranged alphabetically by
subject content back to 1938. They also have the index to
the newspapers back to 1930. They hold the Courier- ‘
Journal on microfilm from its beginning in 1886 and the
Louisville times back to 1884. The News Information
Service would prefer that all requests come through a
library rather than an individual user.
Another service to be offered by the News Information Service is the
utilization of the New York Times Information Bank. The services are
as follows:
$250.00/year 5 searches of up to 15 minutes computer time.
Over 15 minutes will cost $2.00 per minute. l0
abstracts will be sent free for each search. .
Additional abstracts will cost $1.00 each.
Subscription renewals upon depletion of the
$250.00 or annually, which ever comes first. This
is a priority service in that these requests will
be handled with the same urgency as those from the
news room. $200.00 for non-profit libraries.
$ 75.00 Minimum search fee for a one shot search for up to
l5 minutes computer time. Additional computer time
is $2.00 per minute. 10 abstracts free. Additional
abstracts are $2.00 each. $60.00 for non—profit
libraries only.

This innovative service was first introduced to the Kentucky Chapter
of the Special Libraries Association. Mr. Long recognized the need
for some possible polishing of the services and wished to get-in—put
