Caution.—Corr0sive subllmate is a deadly poison. Care must be {ml
taken to keep it and the treated potatoes away from chickens or stock 1111
_ and especially small children. The hands should be carefully washed
- after handling it.

The treated potatoes should he spread out where they will
dry quiekly. llannpers or saeks to be used in handling treated
potatoes should be swabbed or soaked in the solution to free them
ot' disease organisms.
('uH{ny;. (`ut the tubers as nearly as possible to one-ounce
pieees. The ents should be made so that tl1e pieces are bloeky
rather than thin or slender and eaeh should have at least one
good eye. Potatoes whieh are diseolored just beneath tl1e skin
probably are diseased and should be rejected. Immediately
after eutting, the pieees should be dusted with sulfur to dry and
disinteet the ent snrt`aees. About. 10 ounees of sulfur will be
needed for eaeh bushel of seed.

well-drained soil is best suited for potatoes. Land that may be
expeeted to raise good tobaeeo generally will make good potatoes.

The ground should be broken in the fall and left rough,
unless the soil is likely to wash during tl1e winter. \\vl1(‘ll fall-
breaking eannot be done safely, the land should be broken as
early in the spring as the season permits. Breaking should be
deep. The deeper tl1e seedbed, the better the erop.
lf manure is used it may be plowed under or spread after
breaking and disked iu. lf tl1e latter is done, it is best to use
only well»rotted manure.
The soil should be prepared by disking as deeply and thoroly
as possible. so that the seedbed will he fine and firm all the way
down. The land should be tinished with a plank drag or an
.~\—harrow.
l*’ez·fi/i`;1'ny/. A eommereial fertilixer should be used. even
if the land has had an applieation of manure. It should eon-
tain all three of tl1e important plantfoods; nitrogen, phosphorus,
