Gentlemen:-
Vour favor of the lst inst. in reply to our inquiry is at
hand. Believing that you do not appreciate the type of stoner that
we are offering we are sending you under separate cover a copy of our
Pocket Edition Catalog and call your attention to page 18 which bears
‘ upon the question of the advisability of a stoher installation in small
plants.
In reference.to many stohers your contention is undoubtedly correct;
In coneection~with our stoker it is not. In any plant consuming any
I quantity of coal the Jones Stoker will pay for itself in a comparatively
short time. In evidence of this we enclose herewith a number of testi-
monial letters covering small plants that we have equipped. We shall be
pleased to have you address any of these people for more complete in-
formation if you desire. In no case do the plants mentioned exceed 150
EP and in the Ungar Laundry alone is there more than one boiler, and these,
as you will note, are of very small rating.
We are prepared to guarantee a great saving in fuel; increase in
boiler capacity and abatement of smoke. In addition your engineer will
be able to run the boiler without the assistance of a fireman and will
thnq have sufficient time to attend to his other duties and during his
absences a uniform steam pressure will be maintained automatically by
the Jones Stoker. We have the only stoker on the market that gives this

 A-5177@ -2- 2-3-06
advantage. with the Jones Stoker the steam pressure itself at all times
regulates and proportions the supply of fuel and air not only to the
load but to each other, insuring a uniform steam pressure and a minimum
consumption of coal during periods of light load. The advantages de-
rived by this control are very strongly illustrated by steam charts in
the January 1905 issue of our "Publicity Magazine," copy of which is
, sent you under separate cover. If after further consideration of this
subject you are willing to go into details we shall be pleased to take
the matter up carefully with you. We do not wish you to think us impor-
tunate in again addressing you if your letter of the lst inst. is to be
Z considered as final, but we do not believe that you thoroughly understand
the proposition we have to offer you. Our stoker is not by any means a
l cheap cr makeshift device but it is one that pays good returns upon the
investment as many of the users of same will testify. For instance Mr. t
Poston of the Poston Paving Brick Go. recently advised a new customer of
ours that our stoker had paid for itself every year since it had been
installed. `
l Trusting that we may have an opportunity to go into this subject
  with you further, we remain,
_ Vours very truly,

Dear Sirs:
Having used your Stoker three years, we feel that
we are in a position to recommend same. We have had prac-

smoke, and we have had a saving of 15% in fuel, have had
no trouble whatsoever, and can heartily recommend same.
Your Stoker has proven entirely satisfactory to us
and we assure you we are more than pleased with the results.

Replying to yours of the 50th inst. we will sz; that we
are ueing one of the Jones Under-Feed ttokers, and consi er it the
greatest saver of coal that one oan get; not only saves in the qu.nti-
ty, but in the efficiency.
We are not using the Automatic feeder, but think that it
v>uld help a great deal in saving over our way of using it, which
ie hy hand. `
As near as we can figure it, we saved last year nearly the
cost of the Stoker, but as we have to haul our coal ahout four milee
by wagon, it will make this a little greater than it might he with
other oonditions.
The Knoxville Brick Go., under our recom endation install- L `
ed two Under—Feed’s at their plant, and from what I can gather are
very well pleased with theirs. They say there is nothing like it.
We are preparinr to put in another boiler, and it will
surely have an Under—Feed Stoker, and should you use one for a snort
time am sure that you would he of our opinion, and others, that there
is nothing like it; down drafts, chain feeds, eto. are nt° in it.

Messrs. The Underfeed Stoker Co.,
Toronto, Ont.
Dear Sirs:-
In reply to your enquiry as to how we are satisfied with
the two Jones Pattern Underfeed Stokers you placed under the two
return Tubular Boilers, of 40 horse power each in our Boiler Room. ·
They have now been in daily use for two months, and we find them
excellent steam producers.
Before installing these Stokers, we had great difficulty
in maintaining a steady head of steam, in fact had to keep two men
employed, one of whom was continually firing, but since their a
adoption have had all the steam we require, and no difficulty in
keeping the pressure steady at eighty pounds per square inch. We
have also been able to dispense with the services of one man, while
the other man has comparatively easy work. ’
The Stokers are giving entire satisfaction. We formerly
had a great many complaints from our neighbouring shop keepers as
to smoke nuisance, but since the Stokers have been at work, they
have promised us a champagne supper, on account of our having abated
- the smoke.
· _ It gives us much pleasure in recommending your Stokers for
similar service.
Yours very truly,

Mr. Fred A. Daley,
Mang'r Underfeed Stoker Co.,
Chicago, Ill.
Dear Sirs-
. 4}
We have been using your underfeed stoker about four
months, and can not speak too highly of its merits.
We are doing the work with one boiler now, that required two, before W
‘ putting in stoker. 4
We are using the same amount of slack, as we did of soft coal for
fuel, at a difference in price of seventy cents per ton.
We operate our plant steady from Sunday evening until Saturday
evening, without shutting down, and the steam pressure does not
vary more than five pounds, which means a great deal to a plant
using a drying system like ours.
b Yours very truly,
Geo. H C/rppcrt Bro. Brick G0.

Gentlemen;
Your letter of the 3rd inst. in regard to our Martin Rock- ‘ W
ing Grates was received and in accordance with your request, we take
pleasure in quoting you price of $5.00 per square foot, f.o.b. cars
Paris with terms of thirty days net.
_ From the above price, we will make you a special discount
of l0;. An l8x72 boiler would usually call for grates six foot wide
and 5 l/2 foot deep, containing 55 square feet of grate surface, but
the boiler company from whom you purchase your boiler may wish to `
vary these sizes somewhat to meet conditions in your plant.
The above price is for the grate complete, including all W
bearing bars and mechanism for operating same and includes two extra
grate bars. Its installation requires no change whatever in the
brick—work or the boiler front and your own engineer would have no
difficulty in setting it in place.
‘ As stated in our former letter, if you are anxious to save
money in your fuel account and if you wish to burn slack and screen—
ings, we know you would find our Martin Grate the most satisfactory
one made and it will save its extra cost three or four times over ~
every year.
If you should decide to give us your order, will you kindly
notify us as soon as you have closed your boiler contract so that we
can get into communication with the boiler people and arrange for the
drilling of the front.
We respectfully refer you to the Albert Dickinson Seed Co.,
Minneapolis or to any of the people mentioned in our little catalogue W
which.we are mailing to you under separate cover.
Hoping to receive your order, we remain,
Yours very truly,

Gentlemen:
Replyinq to yours of the 6th. We note the exceptions to
the details of the nrawinss for the elevator annex. In reaaru to the
walk under conveyor. If any change is mine at all, we think, it
would he anvisahle to cover the whole floor over solin. We will no it
and adn the qalvanizen iron gutters for $100 adnitional. We will
also put lanninqs or platforms of some kinn unier the min hole so the
man going into the hin can qet a footing after he passes throueh the »
floor. The hollow shaft arrangement, we think, will he much better ‘
than the solid shaft for connecting the cross conveyors. It is lighter
ann has some flexibility ann maple strength for the purpose. However,
if you prefer to have a soliu l 15/l6“ shaft, we will change it, if
you will give us the privilese of supplying either a Skillin & Richarns
Colm Rollen Qonveyor or a Wehster Presses Flight Conveyor in audition
to the one specified. We find Caluwell is holding us up in great
shape on the Helicoin proposition. In our opinion the Helicoin is not
as soon is the sectional flights for if anything sets wrong with any
part of it, you have qot to throw away the whole piece from end to end
of the conveyor. Whereas if you have an acciuent with the removable
sections you only lose the piece namaaeu. The efficiency ann service _
4 of all conveyors are on a par. There is nothing to chose from from
that point.
V Kinnly let us hear from you in reqarn to this immediately as
we were soing to place order for machinery this morninq.

Gentlemen:
we have yours of the l0th and in accordance therewith will
make changes in gutters ind additional floor work at the extra price of
tioo.oo.
We had a call this morninq from Hr. Spears in which he discussed
the cement. We explained to Mr. Spears that we placed this orner with
the agents of the Lehiqh Company, instructing them to ship to us from
their nearest mill. The Northampton mill was the only one they could ·
make shipment from promptly and this is the cement we are getting. .We
called up Robert W. Hunt & Co. this morning in remarn to this cement ·
and they say it pans out in their tests as well as any of the cements,
but in v
