John Davis “1 lliams, university firesident, was born in Hownort, Kentucky,
in l9U9. He recei ived from the University of Kentucky the degrees of A. B
in 1915 and N.fi. in 1930, and from Columbia University the degree of Hd.D.
He taught in eleme enter? schools in Kentucky and served as nrincipal; he
was superintende ent of the Tennessee Valley luthority Schools at Norris,
Tennessee. Later he returned to the University of Kentucky where he was
first director of the Wniversity High School and.ss ssoc cie.te professor of
Education and then director of the University Elementary and High School and
professor of Wducation. He then become president of Mershall Collage,
Huntiigton, West Virginia. Since 1946 he has been chancellor of the Univer-
sity of “luwiSSI“Ulo In 1949 he served as United States delegate to the
United flations Assembly.

The Faculty of the Graduate School of the University of Kentucky has
voted that he be presented to the University FaCulty as a candidate for the
degree of Doctor of Laws (LL.D.).

 

Henry_Ham ingfion Hill, college president, was born in Statesville,
north Caroline, in 1894. He was a student at Davidson College (North
Carolina} from 1910~1913. He received the degrees of A.B. and A.M. from
the University of Virginia in 1921. He received the degree of Ph.D. from
Columbia University in lC )3C and the degree of LL.D. from the University of

Pittsburrh in 19 3. He has taught at the University of Virginia and served
as principal at schools in Arkansas, and as supervisor for schools in
Arkansas, Lw miigton, Kentucky, St. Louis, Missouri, and Pittsburgh, Pennsyl—
Vania. He has lectured on education at the University of Virgin in, the Uni—
