Dear Fred;
There have been many presidents of the American Surgical
Association elected because they were nominated by the
committee end there was nothing left for the association
to do but follow through. You would have received e par- g
ticuler thrill, therefore, had you been present in the
audience and witnessed the u iversal enthusiasm in which
your name was received. There is no question about it,
sir. You were the peoplefs choice., It is not gy habit_i
I to sey nice things about people, and I promise never to
do so again. I hed to do it this time because you were
not there to see it.
It is too bed that they hed to handicap you with such e ·
secretary. You should not ask for everything, though, and
I will do the best that I cen.
