WORKS PROGRESS ADMINISTRATION
IN KENTUCKY

DISTRICT NO.

Fayette County's first purely rural library service went
effect on August 22,1958.This new project has the backing of
the following four public service agencies: U.S.Worhs Progress
administration, Lexington Public Library, Fayette Community
Council,and the Fayette County Board of Education. a

By the 25th of October there were eight book centers fun-
ctioning out in the county. Four were in consolidated schools,

two in small churches, and one in the Haiting Room in the Fayette
County Court House. There were nineteen W;P.A. workers on the

project. . . . . ,
The first month’s Circulation of 1141 books and periodicals is

approximately equal to the number which the most optimistic of

he library's sponsors had predicted for the first six months'
circulation-indicating how eagerly the new service had been

received by the county people;
