ABBEY OF GETHSEMANI

TRAPPI ST, KENTUCKY
Dec 97, 1960

Dear Victor:

By now Dave Rowland will have told you of his rather harrowing afternoon
here. The table is very fine, ideal for the place, and we got it there all right.
But then it started to rain, and on the way back David got stuck in his car and had
to leave it there for several hours while I looked for someone to help him out
of the mud. dventually one of the btothers pulled him out with a tractor.

I have no doubt he will have spoken to you of the three ideas we agreed on,
and you will have valuable suggestions to offer. I look forward to further
discussion about the plans, and I hope this will bring you over here one of these
days. If there is any need to talk over the project soon, let me know. We could
get together early in January. Next week is not too good for me but after that,
until the 18th, everything will be all right. After the 18th is bad again and after
the 25th is all right.

The other day in returning one of the books to the library, I also made a
package of three French books, or something of the sort. Carolyn is pnobably won-
dering what they were: I was just getting rid of them, as they are not needed here.
I presume the library can use them, and that is why I sent them.

I do not think I have officially thanked you and Carolyn for the Christmas
poem. It is superbly done and I am very happy to be able to send it to a few people.
So thank you both very much. I just sent one to I.A.Riehards along with the Meng
Tzu parable. Es I said, I am an: not sending Hang Tzu to our friend Dell Isola.
He had the crust to ask me again for—the Sol. Life, when he has the copy you sent
him. I told him to get his reference from Lax‘s copy. Lax by the way may come
down early in the year, this might be an occasion for you to meet him.

Do they have any of the following titles in the library, or can they be
obtained anywhere in paperbacks, does Carolyn know”

Nicholson, R.N.,]%ystics of Islam
Macdonald D.B., Religious life and Attitude in Islam,
Smith, Margaret, Al Ghazali the mystic.

In any case I hope to see you in January.

All bestuishes for the New Year
Cordially yours in Christ,
